jwmiller33
yes its legal but the fish that you eat still count towards your daily limit.after you eat a fish, it is technically deducted from your 'possession limit', but still counts towards your daily limit

Jiggawhat
Daily and possession limits are the same on inland lakes in Minnesota for all game fish except perch.
GotALunker
does possession limit apply to what might be in your freezer at home?
Crm7290
What is the reason for our rental house on Mille Lacs telling us that it was illegal to clean and cook fish on the water then?We still did as we all thought it just was deducted from our limits but it would be nice to figure out what their deal was. Crm7290
And got a lunker, if that was serious, yes it applies to the fish in your freezer at home.
Jiggawhat
Here it is straight from the 2010 Fishing Regulations.Daily and possessionlimits are the same unless otherwise noted. Fish arein an angler’s possessionwhether on hand, in cold storage, in transport, orelsewhere. As for cooking fish on the ice that is legal. However, it is not legal to possess fillets of fish on lakes that have special regulations that differ from the state wide regs (i.e. Mille Lacs) unless like previously stated you plan on eating them right after they are filleted. Those fish also count towards your daily possession limit.
Crm7290
Jigagawhat- we caught 4 fish between 8 people all weekend, we weren't even close to possession limits or anything else. We filleted them and everyone else ate em out there. Funny thing was was that we didn't bring any meat besides my packet of hot dogs because we assumed that we would catch at least some fish. magnum mike
You can bring the pan but I would bring some brats too. Fishing has been SLOW. The melting we have been seeing over the past few days will make this weekend very interesting on the big lake.
broncosguy711
we are heading up too. almost 100% just waiting for the morning call to see how far we might be able to get out if we go or not. as have done the "1/2 to 3/4 mile out in early january with few results. then at teh end of january got out about 5 to 6 miles and have a great time with fish in the slot [plus some keepers. but also hoping this weather gets the feed bag on for the fish. and the perch especially as have not had much luck with the jumbo's.and we did do our fish fry on the lake, just keep your carcass's with you until done eating, then drive them to shore and dispose of in the resorts garbage after the meal (all fillet's) are eaten. then come midnight your posession is back to 0 on eyes and you can fish again. that is how the DNR checks. no carcass + Fillets supposedly = all walleyes no matter how small the Fillet to the DNR up there.good luck and where are you heading out of up there? I am heading out of Denny's
