Dourque
I know this maybe a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. when tying on a fluorocarbon leader to braid do you guys tie line to line, say with a surgeon's knot or do you use a barrel swivel, or is there some other way that I am missing out on? and if tying line to line is there a better knot than a surgeon's knot. I know alot of questions, but winter is killing me and have started to play with knots just to be ready for open water season.
RK
Hiya - I use back to back uni-knots. Easy to tie, and reliable. If you have a leader that's a lot thicker than the braid (e.g., tying a 15# fluoro leader to 14# Fireline) it helps to double the braid over. I put a dab of super glue on the knot when I think of it...but I don't always think of it.Cheers,Rob Kimm

mainbutter
3x on back to back uni knots. I run 20, 50, and 80lb braid all tied to 25lb fluoro. I don't do anything special when tying the thinner braid to thicker fluoro except take my time to cinch down both sides of my joining knots. If one knot jams in the other, it really doesn't affect line strength enough for me to care, as long as they cinch down tightly.I WILL often use a barrel swivel in between the lines if I'm tossing inline spinners, or rigging bait for still-fishing in rivers.. but since most of my fishing is with jigs, soft plasics, and cranks, back to back uni knots are my go-to. Fever
I too use the back to back Uni. A slight variance of that knotis the blood knot which can also be used in that application. Google it... I too use a swipe of super glue when my bottle with brush applicator is handy. Usually I'm tying 50 -65 lb power pro to 12,14, or 20 lb flouro leaders of about 20 ish inches. Basschaser
I use the modified albright knot. I like how streamline it is and how well it goes through the guides. I have not had any problems with it breaking. End of last year I experimented with a 15 foot leader using a soft fluorocarbon (Seagar Invsx). What I like about this is the knot is on the spool when fighting a fish near the boat and since you're 15 feet into the cast when the knot gets to the first guide, the knot doesn't hardly even touch the guides when casting. Some may say why even bother with the braid then but I would rather replace 15 feet of flouro rather than 100 yards not to mention zero problems with twists and tangles which can happen with fluoro on spinning reels..... Have already spooled up a half dozen reels with the new Sufix 832 and Spiderwire Fluorobraid - can't wait to give them a try. I know the Sufix 832 casts really nice - was casting a DT 16 in the back yard over the weekend. Pretty sad huh????
