Question for Smilinbob

I know you can date a gun by its serial Number and I have a marlin cowboy gun that start with the letter T21 Is this all a person needs to date it? I was under the impression that you only needed the letter or the first two numbers.

Ive punched the numbers into a internet finder and come up with no results

I've got an old Marlin shotgun that really doesn't have a serial #. I was able to pin the date down between 1914-1917 just based on the model. I got information from a guy at a Marlin collectors association.

Looks like it was made in 1960, unless it is something other than a model 336 or 39.

Thanks its a model 336 with the cowboy stock but no saddle ring.

This is a really clean gun hardly any scratches or wear on the barrel
