Bear55
The buck in my avatar was shot at 7-8 yards, first doe of this year was at 5 yards but it makes it hard to pass up when they get that close. My doe this year was at 3 yards, almost too close, nearly took out a back strap to get both lungs. Lucky for me the tree I hunted didn't allow me to get up very high or I would have had to wait for her to get further out. No shot opps on the way in. luckey
The first thing I do from the stand is range everything with in 30 yards. The ring becomes my comfortable range. I also mark a few spots at 40 in case a good clean shot is presented. With that said, I have never shot one over 25 yards. Stuff happens. This fall I had a very nice 10 point 15 feet from me and didn't get a shot. ARRRGGHH.
minnbowhunter
I practice to 40 and hunt to 20. I have never shot a deer further than 25 yrds. Most are inside 15.
