Its kinda chilling when the Ice Leader Forums move back up to the top of the main page, geeze i just mowed the grass and picked some tomato's.(lol) But this is Minnesota and old man winter will soon be knockin at the door before we know it, Oh well the best fishing is still ahead of us so lets take advantage of the rest of the open water season. But i guess its also the start of another season for the outdoor people of minnesota. ricbak

Brrrrr! So thats where everyone went! It seems like a sickness that takes over many a MN fisher that frequents the internet around the same month as halloween, scary!. wink.gif The ice forums are usually the most popular. Oh well. We still have 2 months of great open water fishin' to go. I'm going to leech lake this weekend to enjoy some walleye and musky fishin' and the great fall colors

There are quite a few of us who fish open water all year. Pools 2 and 4 are very good in the winter. A nice 20 degree day with the sun shining is quite comfortable for being in a boat.

Man I live in Missouri, and I wouldn't dream of goin out on a lake fishin in 20 degree weather! I don't care to hit the lake if it's in the 30's. I guess you upnorth people are used to the cold! BUT I AIN"T! Have a good time when it gets that cold, but be careful!

Hey Barry didn't you know you either have to be tuff or stupid to live up here? grin.gif I have relatives from Texas that will not even visit us after August.

20 degrees is not that bad for fishin,
I can dress in layers and stay warm.
If it is hot and humid, there is nothing I can do to stay comfortable cept mabye to jump in the lake smile.gif

I was just telling the folks in the metro forums the same thing: If you don't want to put your boat away for the winter come on down and fish pool 4. Shoot the fishing doesn't even get good until Nov. I think the fall bite is better than the spring. There is less fishermen out because of the hunting season.

Phyl: I hope I qualify as one being tuff , not the other. The bite on Pool 2 has been good right now and will continue through the winter. As previously stated , there is not a lot of traffic and competition for the good spots when it is cold.

Ya, you can tell the serious ice fishing guys are getting pumped! I think ice fishing is "ok" but would much rather fish open water(without freezing my ars)....Here I am in Minnesota so I'll make the best of it. Maybe I can make it to one of the FM ice deals just for fun!

I hope we have better ice this year! I had the house out on Cedar for two whole weeks last year and it was still scary!

I was in Baudette in Sept, we had a really good time and the owners of the place where we stayed were trying like everything to get us to come up and go ice fishing. That is one thing I would really like to try! I work with a fellow from MN and he says ice fishing is great. He says you bundle up for the trip out to the ice house, and when you get inside it can be warm enough for shorts! Maybe someday I'll make it up there for fishing the hard water. Till then you all be CAREFULL and GOOD FISHIN!

Yup. We layer up, and our kids look like starfish dolls, but we're out there. When I moved here from CO I called MN the Vietnamese Tundra. When God was making the world, some smart alek came up to it, tapped it on the shoulder and said "oh sure, you can make a jungle, and you can make a tundra, but can you put 'em both together?" "Hmm. Sure I can..."

It's kind of Chilling when --- You're out ice fishing and crack open a cool one and find out it's too cool and nothing pours out!!! Or better yet, when you take a sip and your lips start sticking to the can!!

I can honestly say I ain't never been outside drinkin a cold one and have my lips stick to the can! I don't think I want to try it either! Hope all you guys UPNORTH have a good season on the ice. From what I'm seeing on the T.V. you won't have long to wait for the hard water. Good Luck and be careful!

    • Ill let dealer plug into computer and see what shows up.
    • Pigger steak on the grill, taters and corn. Yea yea, I get docked etiquette points for no serving dishes.
    • I suppose there is no check engine light code plug in on those like a car? Sometimes you can read and clear a misfire code. Did you try switching plugs out on the trail?
    • Had scratchers down but probably didn't matter much. Wasn't overheating and temp on gauge stayed at 160. Another guy in club thought it might also be bad gas and a misfire settting off check engine. Ill see what they come up with when they plug into computer. As far as electronic reverse lots of problems with it on internet. Fuse wasn't blown and I also bought and changed the 2 relays that people have had problems with and still nothing. I think the Servo motor crapped out as those have had problems to. I just hope it doesn't take to long to fix as spring is around the corner
    • Wow, sorry to hear all that.I call it the Northshore curse!  Did you have your scratchers down? Or do you think it's just a short somewhere?  😟
    • it takes some practice. I was skeptical at first also but friends did great on them so made the switch and I use them 95% of the time for gills and crappies now.  Still learning
    • Made it up to Silver Bay for a ride on Saturday. Got about 15-20 miles down trail and sled starts to miss and wants to die and check engine light comes on. Shut it off and look things over and everything looks OK and not overheating. Start back up and runs fine for about 10 miles and does same thing. Did this about 4 times till we got to Trestle Inn. Im thinking its bad gas so was going to go put some premium in it to see if that helps. Start machine and put in reverse and back up and hit button to take out of reverse and nothing happens. Reverse fail comes up on gauges not good. Only good thing was stranded in Trestle Inn parking lot instead of woods. Gave guy I was riding with my car keys to come back with my truck and trailer and went and drank beer for a couple hours. Finally get everything back to motel and get organized and come back out to get some stuff out of truck and step on back of trailer and it flips up. Someone must have helped themselves to my tilt trailer pin as it would have never fell out on its own. Had to run to town on Sunday and round up a pin for trailer and dropping off sled at dealer tomorrow. At least its still under warranty.
    • Thanks Presidents for the day off!  😁   Went back over to the same trails by Orock and hit it pretty hard to burn off some of the carbon I built up pulling the grandkids and sleigh around the other day. The trails were groomed and not bad but the groomer seemed to have put some pretty deep grooves in the trails around the corners. Never really saw that before anywhere? 🤔 There were a few folks out but no where near last weekend. My top end rebuild seems to be breaking in pretty well and the compression has been going up the last few rides so hopefully I'm almost there. 🤗
    • I picked up some impulse mayfly plastics and mud bug jigs. I have tried plastics in the past with mixed results. I expect good things from the impulse mayflys. It would be nice not to have to mess with live bait.
    • Like Mike said, location is going to be key to giving you recommendations. The types of activities you want to engage in and price you are willing to pay can also be factors as well as how old your camper is in some instances.
