Who owns a Manta

I was looking at a demo of this bait online and for a subsurface jerkbait it looks pretty sweet. I've only be musky fishing 3 years but I've heard they used to be pretty popular.

Any thoughts on the Hang 10" Manta?

I have 8 or 9 mantas and I like them. They seem to raise a lot of fish, but I have trouble keeping them hooked. Probably my fault though. Really easy to work, I use them every time I'm out.

It's one of my go-to baits. Works really well as a search bait. Some well known muskie experts refer to them as the "Stevie Wonder bait" because they get so many follows of fish swaying their heads, without a strike. While I do get a lot of follows, those that do hit the lure absolutely pound it.

You need to fish it like a topwater, even if you see the jaws around the lure, don't set the hook until you feel the fish. I haven't had any problems with hookups.

The manta has put about 40% of the fish I have put in my boat. I have about 10 in my box.

I have one but am not too fond of it. My dad likes it and I will say he does raise plenty of fish, some big and catches one every now and then too. Its to hypnotic, just same old same old back and forth for me. I prefer baits that aren't so rhythmic I guess. I've tried playing around with it but just doesn't do it for me.

I have the Hang 10 and like it. Don't throw it as much as my Hellhounds and Phantoms but come this time of year I'll throw it more just because it has a nice perch pattern and size/shape if I need to "match the hatch." Super easy to work and like most said easy to get stuck in the rythmic retrieve. I like to toss in a couple of short, quick jerk's here and there while its in a middle of a glide to change things up. Makes it roll some and dart a little more up and down along with side to side. This is how I work my other gliders as well but they are more erratic when worked like this. Less followers and more eaters when changing things up.

If you want fish to eat 'em, throw 'em when it's windy. When it's calm they seem to be just a fish finder.

I caught a 28" pike on a 8" atomic carp colored one on Saturday. I love them, and in general like working the gliders. Have had a couple of smaller follows and never landed a musky on one, but enjoy working them. I have 2 mantas, 2 hellhounds and a warlock. Like them all.

Working them fast has been the trick to triggering fish with them for me. That being said I've sold all of mine because I feel for the bodies of water I fish there are better options available.

I have a few, it has the widest glide of any jerkbait that I have. I haven't boated any fish on one I know plenty of people that have.
