all I know is, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I have a 1981 glastron with a 1981 johnson 75. every fall, since new, I drain the lower unit and replace, stabil the gas, and fog the cylinders. to this day, the boat has NEVER been in the shop for anything other than a tilt/trim electrical problem (just this year) in it's entire life. needless to say, I fog EVERYTHING that will sit idle during an off-season!!

Mines never seen the shop either and sits outside year round and other than stabil, changing lower unit grease and new plugs and fuel filter every year I don't do anything else. Last time out I fill the tank add stabil go fish top off the tank on the way home and forget about it till spring.

I fog and lube everything in sight. Then wipe it all down good with an oil rag. One thing I do notice in the spring with some of my outboards is they might start a little hard and blow some smoke etc. but they always get going and I don't have any shop time on any of the recent crop.

Six years on 115 Yammi and it never skips a beat and starts so fast I have a heck of a time getting my fingers of the key fast enough!!!

It's no different than having a car that will sit all winter. Fog it and you won't have a problem. Don't fog it and you probably won't have a problem but there is that chance something will stick.

There isn't anything wrong with going the extra step. Its 2 minutes of your time that could save a real headache later.

Northlander I have the 115 Yammi and I have NEVER had a problem with it. It is a 2003. And I mean NEVER. I agree with some of the guys -whom I suppose are better mechanics than I- that for the most part it won't harm anything. As I mentioned, the only thing I do find sometimes is in the spring it might take a bit to get our small outboards fired up and then they blow some smoke and run a little rough at first, probably because I over do it with the fogging oils etc.

Hey jig head is it an optimax? If so you can have them hitch a computer up to it and after a few pushes of some buttons the engine will oil itself for seasonal storage. Not everyone has the little computer, but I would think they are big enough that they should have one
