Weekend Report

How'd everyone do this weekend?

It was typical fall fishing for me this weekend (feast or famine). Hit a lake on saturday afternoon and found them really stacked up in one area. Pulled around 20 off the spot with a redeye shad, then when that died down i switched to a jigworm and got an additional 10-15. Nothing gigantic but most in the 2.5-3.5 range with 3 around 4.25. Pulled a couple nice 7-8 pound pike off the spot too (thought they were gonna be two pig bass). Hit a lake on sunday morning expecting similar results and got just the opposite. It was the toughest bite i've had on that lake all year. My top two areas didn't produce a bite, I was able to scrounge up a 3 lber off a dock and two 4 lbers off the weededge in 5 hours of fishing. It was disappointing to say the least. Missed a couple on some shallow rocks on an inside weededge. But other than that not much. Tried the weededge with jigs/creatures/finesse worms. Flipped some pockets in the heavy weeds, threw a frog overtop of the thick weeds, threw some cranks on the weededge, banged some humps with a crank, and hit several docks.

Hit another lake for a couple hours sunday afternoon and found them stacked and aggressive again, caught 25 or so rippin a crank through a weed transition on an inside turn, biggest two were right at 3 lbs. I'm always amazed how fish activity can really vary from lake to lake, especially in the fall. Im still baffled over how off the one lake was.

Was out on Mille Lacs near Cove Bay and the wind made it virtually impossible to fish. I think there was 4 foot rollers with the waves crashing over the rocks pretty hard. And to top it all off it started to rain pretty heavy for awhile. Needless to say, it wasn't what I was expecting from the forecasts of the weatherman. That will be the last time for that lake this soft water season. Now waiting for ice-up on the big water.
