There is a blue book for boats and motors, but like you said the book values are typically below the market values people are getting for them.

I think the best way to determine value on a used boat is to put in your time and do some research, find similar boats and motors that are up for sale and see what they're going for. There's lots of boats for sale on-line.

Exactly...searh the online boat sellers databases, try to look locally but don't heitate to expand your search if you don't find enough comparable boats initially. Remember, if you do look at a wider gergraphic area that prices for certain types of boats can vary by region as well. I was looking for a 20 foot-ish center console for a couple years, mostly out of state cause thats where they are, and the few I was seeing locally were mostly way overpriced as they are rare in these parts. I did manage to find one in the citites at a good price, but like I said, it took a lot of looking.

With any big purchase, before you pull the trigger you should be well versed on different models, narrowed it down to a few models that will fit your needs, and lastly have shopped around comparing prices. Once you've done that you will know what is a high price and what is a low price. There is no book that can do that for you.

Now that you know what a boat should be going for your in a position to deal or if your lucky, quickly swoop up a steal of a deal before someone else.

There are so many variations how can you ever really come up with a 'right price'? The quality of the add on's is going to force things to change dramatically. I sold an old boat recently but it had a very nice trolling motor on it, all new wiring, LED lights, and the trailer had recently been repainted and expenisve guide jobberdos added to it. I guess I would be judging on quality and features more than trying to find the 'best deal' cause you'll end up missing out on a lot of rigs.

I suppose another option would be to get a list of the divorce filings and make contact with those folks!!

Time of year totally matters. If you are looking now you will be able to find some nice prices.

blue book is worthless as a good quality boat is worth much more than listed.

Just search a lot for listed boats and compare as you see them. Also check what dealers are selling their used boats for.
