2002 Summer league meeting

Recommended Posts

Hey all,
I'm tentatively planning a meeting for the 2002 summer league for Friday November 30th at 7pm at my place here in Sauk Rapids.
I would like to discuss league format, dates, decide what lakes we will be fishing, hold an election for league officials, scoring systems, and just discuss what worked and did not work last year. Everyone who took part in the league last year is welcome as is anyone who might want to be involved next year. Please post your thoughts and weather or not you could make this meeting.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Gullguide,
I don't know if I can make the meeting,
but I am interested in doing some of the tournaments next summer. I am not
fishing the MWC any more and I now have
the time to get involved. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help,
I suddenly have lots of free time on my hands. smile.gif

Gullguide,
That would be cool, it never hurts to have the home field advantage. smile.gif
There are several campgrounds that are
available or you guys could camp at my place.
How soon will you have a schedule for the events? I don't want to book that date with a client.......Please keep me informed, I'll help anyway I can. smile.gif

I'd like to have all decisions made the night of the meeting. The sooner people could plan, the better. How difficult would it be for you to fish other events Guideman? The way it sounded during conversations last year, most of the lakes will be north of Brainerd with the Alex area potentially having one event. This is going to be a once a month deal for the league with 1, possibly 2 larger events planned.

I'd love to see you guys throw one up on L.O.W - june out of warroad, the fishing should be hot....maybe ice-out pike fishing the end of april, first part of may. thought I'd throw it out there so you guys don't forget us northerners!

Gullguide,
I should be able to let you know more after the schedule is out. I have taken
a few reservations for next season...so it will depend what I have on my schedule. I would like to fish them all
if I can, I like the idea of having a few more up north. smile.gif

I would love to be there, but we have other plans on 11/30, so I can't make it. Here is my 2 cents worth:
1) A great part of the fun is making friends and learning from others. So keep or add things to support that, such as the mid-day break. How about an evening fish fry once or twice?
2) Longer trips that encourage a campover are good for #1 because we share stories around the campfires.
3) I love fishing the big northern lakes. Vermillion would be fun; I like Kabetogama also.
4) if you consider Lake of the Woods, maybe schedule when the fishing is good in the river in case the wind shuts us out of the big bay?
5) We could extend the season on the front end on the Mississippi River(pool 3 or 4) in late April or early May.
6) How about a full moon trip to Mille Lacs on 9/20 (3:00pm to midnight?). Maybe just a group event and not bother with a tournament because of the slots.
7) I can't make the weekend either side of July 4.

Hi Rick,
Late july and all of august is the peak of the guiding season for most of us.

June has some of the best fishing for a multi spieces event......If we get the date early enough, it shouldn't be a problem. smile.gif

The weather can be very unpredictable
in june, but most of the fly hatches are in july. I would vote for june or late in august.

We also have some tournament action in the month of august so it can be tough to find lodging.

Hmmm Small waters, how about MN River, say around Chaska?OOH a night tourney for big cats!Who's afraid of a little mud?!
Actually I like the idea of fishing both smaller lakes and some of the bigger northern lakes.Although I think for the big northern lakes I would prefer making a weekend out of it.

Guideman, can you send a list of preferred weekends to have one on the Big V to GullGuide just prior to our meeting so we can be sure to pick the right date for it?

We really want it to work out well for you Cliff, and Dave if possible.

GullGuide, maybe you can work out a Date with Guideman, Cliff, and Dave before the meeting?

Just a thought. I'd hate to leave it up to chance at the meeting.

Hi,
I didn't get a chance to fish any of the tournaments last summer because of work, family. How about a multi-species on Detroit Lake? There are a lot of anglers in that area and it might really help to introduce many new people to this cool bunch of board members. Did what I said make any sense? ;-)

I might be able to make it to the meeting. I will have to see how hard the water is by that time, first smile.gif Either way, I will try to make it to all the events, especially if they are once per month. I have a hard time heading south to lakes like Minnetonka and Horseshoe (or whatever that lake was).

Tully,
I agree with the Detroit Lake(s) idea, but Detroit Lake is so darn packed with boaters and idiots who drive mach one through your honey hole. Had it happen one too many times, and I won't fish there on a warm, sunny weekend day.

Great ideas guys, we will have to discuss this at the meeting. Just have to make sure all lakes and and especially rivers, handle the larger boats that some have in the league. I love the idea of the Red, but there are only so many holes to fish without some teams having to run a ways to find one. Just a thought though, maybe this isn't the case on the Red.
Here's the plan-
I'll make a batch of hot-wings and BBQ wings. Think of something to bring, even if it is only a bag of chips and post it so someone else does not bring the same thing. Any more ideas?
