skid for a 4x8 perm

Boar

Recommended Posts

I would like to build a skid fram for a 4x8 perm I slaped together, so I can just hook up an pull it around if needed. How do ya build one so snow dosent build up underneath an it deflects snow to ride on top. What would you guys build? Boar

How much does it weigh and what are you pulling it with?

You could build a skid/dray but then you have to get it underneath the shack ever time you want to move. Not that big a deal if you let the house sit in one spot but not good if you want to move around. IMO a shack that size shouldn't need anything like that. I'd affix the runners directly to the shack.

I do that by making the 8' rim joists out of 2x8' and bevel each end. That way I can hook up to either end. That option is nice when the house gets drifted in or a plow bank in the way. To the bottom of the runner you can add HDPE. Either 1.5" wide or you can go 3" for a little flotation. If you insulate the floor in between the joists and add corrugated steel to the exterior, the shack will ride over bumps instead of getting hung on a rim or floor joist.

If your pulling this with a sled break a trail before moving the shack. If you pulling with a truck in deep snow or over frozen mounds use a very short rope to the runners. Because of that short rope, as you pull the front of the shack will lift off the ground.
