I know it varies from day to day (or hour to hour), but where would I likely find the smallies right now?

Craigums- Fall can be very feast or famine. But it does seem like if you get on them.. Your ON them. I think it really depends on each body of water. I myself continue to find fish schooled on deeper sand and rock areas. Spot on the spot areas keep good numbers. Where you can catch 15 fish from a very small area if its good enough.. Docks and shallow weeds should start to see more fish as the weather changes. Use the wind to your advantage.

Shallow reeds and docks were good this past weekend. One pasrticular patch reloaded with fish four different times...

For me, the month of big fish starts in two days. It's not a numbers game anymore, I'm hawg hunting till ice up. I only caught five fish last Friday after work, but two were 19"ers. I expect the catch numbers to go down and the length of the fish to go up. Then again, sometimes I expect too much.

I snuck back to MN this past weekend and had one of my better days of the year on Friday. As many have stated, good fishing is definitely not over, I just wish I was in MN for the fall season...

The fish seem to bunch up in only a few areas the further into fall you go. If you find them and put the right bait in front of them, knocking 10+ quality fish out of a spot in an hour is definitely possible. The flip-side is if you're in the wrong spot, there won't be any fish there.

I like this time of the year Hawg hunting is fun!... Speaking of, dietz, are you planning on doing the secret word again? I think it's a good excuse to skip the duck hunting and try for some piggys!

Fishing in fall is unbeatable imho, like said earlier there is nothing like hawg hunting, I get all jittery just thinking about it!!

Lake turn over can be very hard fishing. Or so I have found. Fish can go just about anywhere in the whole lake which really tends to spread them out. But the time just up until turn over is good. Lakes are no where near turn over yet.
