What kind of leader do you use?

I use 100lb. fluoro that I build myself. Never had one fail, except the snaps, even Stringease, if you use them for too long they will break. I use Sampo bearings, and those are the only ones I'll use. They're pretty expensive, but worth it. I'll probably be switching to 130lb flouro when this spool is up, which will be soon.

As far a length it is kind of up to you. At one time I think my casting leaders were getting out to 20-22" which will work fine for some lures, but not cowgirls when you get into a figure 8. I'm back down to 12-14" on my big bucktail rod just so that you can make the 8 without the CG cutting the corner and making it too small.

JB/WTD rod - Single Strand (10-12")

All else, 130# Stealth Tackle leaders (14")

NOTE: If your leader has the big stay-lock snaps, test them on your lures to make sure it will fit through the eye of the lure. Some lures don't have an eye big enough for this clip to fit through. If that is the case, just add a split ring to the eye and you should be good to go. Some examples of lures that will need the added split ring include - hawg wobblers, bull dawgs (if they don't already have one)

A basic 12" stiff wire 100 lb test will do ya, boated 300+ fish now and have yet to break off, but any kink or abrasion or whatever and I cut line and retie a new one. I definitely don't try to waterski them in, let em battle ya after hookset back off the drag a bit, don't forget like me to retorque your drag, last outing I had major slippage and lost a fish on hookset.
