Hey all,

Its been awhile but with ice on the horizon and selling my shanty and gas auger last season I need some gear. 1st question, I have been trying to find the nils hand augers and cannot seem to find anyone selling used or new. So with that in mind I am wondering if the hand augers for the Strikemaster Lazer 6" would be alright to couple with the icegator? I have heard the results are much better with the gas augeer attachment vs. the hand auger attachment. Mainehazmt I know you can answer this. 2nd question, Also has anyone seen the new line of Fishtraps? They are still not on their HSOforum.

Thanks

I use a 6" Strikemaster with my rechargeable drill. With replacement batteries, it is good up until deep ice for a dozen holes at least (depending on the number of spare batteries). It should work a whole lot better with the Gator. I can see why you are looking at the Gator, pretty good sale prices.

If you have your heart set on a Nils, everybody should be restocking soon, I would think, even the Pro Store here. They have been out of stock since the end of last ice season, which is how it normally goes. It is still pretty early for the preseason sales. I have been thinking about a 6" Nils myself. It is extremely important to keep your blades sharp no matter which lower end you use with an electric or you will eat up your batteries and still not get anywhere.

I'd get a Nils. It takes less torque then any other auger system. That is why you can get by with a Tanaka power head that is half the size(cc) of a Tecumseh.

How does the relate to using the icegator? Longer battery life.

Not to mention you won't need an extension and the Nils blade cuts super fast.

You could use the Mora but because the flute is short you'll have to flush out the hole of ice chips of else it'll bind after you punch through. You'll for sure need and extension.

same here, if ever down in the SW corner of the state, I love my ice gator. I have used two different bits on it now and just got my Nils Master so now going to give that bad boy a whirl. I love it.

FYI,

Icegator is having their sale still and will be ending real soon. I spoke with the president of the company and they will coming out with a new powerhead. If you order one now you can get the new powerhead at that price. This powerhead willl be adaptable to the future introduction of lithium batteries.

So if you are thinking of the gator get one now and save some money.
