FishingWebGuy
I see that we will have a new moon the night of archery deer opener. I am new to this so just wondering what affect you veterans think this will have on movement opening morning? I would think it would cause more movement at dawn since the night would be so dark. Any truth to that or do the deer not care either way?
DonBo
There's an article in the newest issue of Peterson's Bowhunting magazine stating they put GPS chips in a bunch of deer to see how they acted with all the different influences in their lives. They claimed the moon phase had ZERO effect on deer movement. Weather conditions played a much bigger roll. Now in my own personal observations I seem to see fewer deer during the full moon than all other times.Best advice is to get out there as often as posssible no matter what moon phase or weather conditions exist, just get out there. Wow! zero effect! I would never have guessed that. Even fish seem to be affected by the moon. So my trail camera should have a barometer on it instead of a moon phase indicator? vister
the best deer movement is when the barometer changes a lot, fast. especially a sharp drop in pressure, consistent with a cold front coming in
Finlander
Kinda like fishing question: When's the best time to fish?Answer: any time you can! Can't shoot them from the couch!More time in the woods equals more chances to succeed!!

I've had the same experince DonBo, usually fewer deer during a full moon. However if I do see any deer they are usualing between 9:00-2:00.
