minnows on designated trout waters

Recommended Posts

Not sure about regs but if I cut minnows in half b4 going onto lake would that be legal or not since technically they aren't alive?

Live minnows are not allowed on designated stream trout lakes.

Dead minnows are ok.

You can also take some left-over minnows and store them in salt (in a baggie or something). After laying in salt for a while they take on a leathery texture that helps them stay on the hook much better. And like french fries, salt probably makes the minnows taste better, yuk!

I've also been told by the DNR that you can use minnows you catch from the stream in that stream. So, if you tie on a size 10 hook and start catching small chubs, shiners, etc. you can then use them in that same river.
