thedeadsea
Do split/banged up fins affect the health of the fish at all? I caught this 6 lb'er this weekend and it has it's share of scars and splits. Not a great pic but it was just me and my 3 and 4 year old in the boat so I wanted to snap a quick pic and get it back in the lake ASAP. I've seen lakers with split dorsal fins but nothing like this fish. Steve
NCLaker
Not sure the cause for this walleye, but I've seen nets with larger gapped webbing do this to Northern Pike tail fins. I've since picked up a new net with tighter webbing (Frabill Conservation Series) for general purpose use.
Nick Kuhn
They heal, so not really. It isn't necessarily the net, could be any number of things. I have a single bass in an aquarium and it has still managed to tear it's fins. Not sure how long it takes to heal but I know they do so fairly quickly. thedeadsea
Could be she was C&R'd already this year as I caught her on a very popular spot.Steve
