Winter Wabbits

Anyone chase wintertime rabbits? I know the season runs until feb, but I've never hunted them besides fall. Are they very active when it is cold? Would it be a good idea to hunt right after a snow, or right when it starts warming up after a cold snap? Would just like to get out a few times this winter... Thanks

Haven't done it in a few years but winter time rabbits are a blast - literally! Wear red, drive farm groves, post one guy, they really show up in the snow, do it on the warmer sunny days. Tasty eating too. Make sure the guys are using low base 6's or 8's so they don't get blown up, it doesn't take much to anchor a rabbit.

Black, they are a blast to hunt as you described. There has been a group of guy's from LL hunting rabbit's like that for about 25 years. We usually have a "Rabbit" feed in early March every year. We try to get about 125-150 rabbit's for the feed. We just use the loins and back legs for the feed and keep the rest for ourselves. Nothing more fun than pushing a grove and having a poster or two and listen to the shots and yelling of the missed rabbit's! We like to use 7 1/2 shot low based shells. This year the population is suppose to be up so it should be good shooting. As we get into later Jan. and Feb. the females won't be moving as much and we get almost exclusively male rabbits. Good Luck and be Safe!!
