  1. Milwaukee Fishing Eezy Peezy! By Milwaukee Wisconsin fishing charter Capt. Jim Hirt Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing Report 6/24/2019 Hello all, thank you for reading my reports. Joe, Laura and Jonathan Wolf from Mansfield Texas had fair weather and a multi species catch on a beautiful day on Lake Michigan. I enjoyed the opportunity to fish with them. Join us in Milwaukee! To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast! Action is steady and all species are active. The water is still 50 degrees on top. This has made for easy presentation to fish. As long as this continues anglers will have success don’t miss out. Good weather and lake conditions will fill the cooler in the future. The water is warming up near shore and that area is slow. There are pods of forage from 70 feet and out to 200. The recent changes has brought many Chinooks and Coho in. Most of the fish came from the top to the bottom. Our best presentations are Church Walleye planer boards with 150 and 225 copper running 40 to 65 down and downriggers 80 to 120 feet down. Flasher and Bull Frog flies or 100 foot leads on Reaper magnum spoons on downriggers have been the best producers. Reaper magnum spoons are sold at http://www.badgertackle.com with free shipping. Our best boat speed was 2.0 mph. Wire Divers are producing very well set to #2 with 130 feet of line out. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! We have definitely turned the corner and have seen a major improvement in angling success. The ups and downs of past weeks are behind us and good weather and lake conditions will fill the cooler in the future. The water is warming up and there are pods of forage from 70 feet and out to 200. The recent changes has brought many Chinooks and Coho in. Most of the fish came from the top to the bottom. Our best presentations are Church Walleye planer boards with 2 and 3 color lead core and downriggers 80 to 120 feet down. Some of the best producers have been dodgers or flashers with Howie green flies and anglers reported success on Reaper magnum spoons sold at http://www.badgertackle.com Our best boat speed was 2.0 mph. 3. Milwaukee Fishing! Starting To Roll! By Milwaukee Wisconsin fishing charter Capt. Jim Hirt Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing Report 5/29/2019 Hello all thank you for reading my reports. Amanda and Jesse worked together to land this 15 pound 4 ounce Chinook and a bunch of Coho. It was great to fish with them. Join us in Milwaukee! To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast! We had our ups and downs the past week. However I see improvement as we progressed through the week. The water is warming up and there is pods of forage from 70 feet of water to shore. The recent changes has brought some Chinooks and Coho in. Most of the fish came in the top 28 feet. I tried north of Milwaukee but did better going south. We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the harbor gaps and south of the green can marking fish at all depths. Our best presentations are Church Walleye planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 20 to 35 feet down. The way I set up a planer board is with 20 lb. mono to a 1/2-ounce bead chain sinker. Use 6 feet of 15 lb. fluorocarbon leader from the sinker to a size #1 Cross Lock snap and lure. The fish have been particular. Some of our best producers have been Vulcan Silver Sky and Orange Slush sold at http://www.badgertackle.com Silver blue spoons worked best for us running 60 feet behind the ball on downriggers 8-15 feet down. Our best boat speed was 2.2 mph. Slide Divers are producing very well set to #2 with 50 feet of line out. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! 4. Milwaukee Fishing! Gaps For Success By Milwaukee Wisconsin fishing charter Capt. Jim Hirt Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing Report 5/15/2019 Hello all thank you for reading my reports. Join us in Milwaukee! To get my fish reports and how to videos first go to http://www.jimhirt.com By subscribing you will keep ahead of the other anglers. When I post you will get it fast! Early May fishing is good. Most of our charter trips are catching 8 to 10 fish. Mostly Browns with some Rainbows and Coho. Not much has changed since the last report. Plenty of cold weather and rain has slowed catch rates with fewer anglers on the water. We fished sunny skies on Sunday with the wind out of the northeast at 5-10 mph to start. The wind came up and blew us off the lake. We still managed 6 for 10 in 3 hours of fishing. Most of the fish came in the top 18 feet or on the bottom. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 54 degrees. We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the river mouth and harbor gaps marking fish at all depths. Our best presentations are Church Walleye planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 20 to 35 feet down. The way I set up a planer board is with 20 lb. mono to a 1/4-ounce bead chain sinker. Use 6 feet of 15 lb. fluorocarbon leader from the sinker to a size #1 Cross Lock snap and lure. The fish have not been too particular. Some of our best producers have been Vulcan Silver Sky and Orange Slush sold at http://www.badgertackle.com Michigan Stinger Natural Born Killer and most of their silver orange spoons are working. Inside the harbor and depending on wind direction the north and south gaps are producing fish. The fish at the north gap came on small spoons. Silver blue spoons worked best for us running 60 feet behind the ball on downriggers 8-15 feet down. Our best boat speed was 2.2 mph. Slide Divers are producing very well set to #2 with 50 feet of line out. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. 5. Kewaunnee 8/8-8/13 My dad and I fished out of Kewaunee for about 5 days and it was slow but steady for us. Ended up 12-16 with about a dozen shakers on top of that and a couple drive byes. We caught fish in 80-165 fow but fished as deep as 370 fow with only one drive by in 312 fow for the deep run. One one fish in a meat rig, one on a flasher fly, 3(+5 shakers) on clean spoons, 1 in a spoon with a dodger and 6(+7 shakers) on a spoon pro troll 8" spin ray. We added the spinner/spoon into the spread the last 2 1/2 days. Outside of the shakers the fish ran nice but no giants with the biggest just over 19 lbs. Sog was 2.2-2.8 mph. Surface temps ran 67-73 degrees. Fish were caught 40-70 feet down. Talking to a few other boats reports varied from 0-8 fish per trip and boats were scatteredall over the lake. Some big fish being caught and lost. Here's a few pics from our trip.
  6. My mom, dad wife and myself made a four day fishing trip to Algoma for the labor day weekend. Fishing reports heading in were not good and we were greeted by cold water temps, thick fog and thunderstorms. We had one day we didn't get out due to thick fog. In talking with a few charter captains the best bite was out in 120-250 fow for rainbows and lakers. Not many kings were bring caught. We did find a few salmon on our evening trips. Most days were shortened by thick fog conditions on the lake. Here's my mom and I with 2 from the first evening caught on spoons inside 50 fow. The next day was gorgeous and we were able to work out deeper for some rainbow and coho action returning to the shallows for the evening. Wanda with a nice rainbow and king. The king was Wanda's first and she had a blast working it to the net. It was a nice 18.5 lb staging female. Here's both Wanda with our fish for the day. Both kings hit home made meat rigs and flasher in under 30 fow. Here's my dad with a nice brown trout that hit a spoon up shallow. In talking with pier fishermen there were very few fish in the river. We landed every fish that hit in my boat and my mom and dad only lost one rainbow the tossed a spoon on a jump. We couldn't buy a bite on a j plug the whole weekend. All fish on spoons or meat rigs. Water temps warmed from mid 40s to mid 60s on the surface by Sunday. My mom did get a mid teens laker she released without getting a picture. Most boats are fishing rainbows, lakers and coho in the top 50 feet over 100+ fow.
  7. Fishing Report, Victoria BC March 21, 2016 Ucluelet BC Fishing Report We have mostly been fishing salmon when we can get out. The winter weather is often a little harsher in Ucluelet than Victoria, especially since much of the water fished isn’t quite as protected. On the days we can get out the Chinook fishing has been very good and we are not running very far to set our lines. Most Chinook are ranging in the 8-15lb range and are coming on small Silver Horde 3 inch or Coyote spoons. Green and Blue are classic colors and are consistent. Glow and UV needlefish hutchies about 20 feet from the bottom are also working. Halibut We haven’t had a chance to fish halibut because of the weather and also it is a little early in Ucluelet for consistent fishing. There are always a few taken during spring months so it always worth a try. Generally be late April/May we see more halibut show up. This time of year Victoria is a better spot for Halibut. Victoria BC Fishing Report Salmon and Halibut fishing's been consistently productive through March with a recent influx of 10lb+ chinooks (kings) following the bait to the banks. We expect these mature Salmon to remain in the area and continue to grow amongst the feeders we've been fishing through the winter. Constance bank has been the primary producer, fishing AP Needlefish and Silver Horde Coho Killer spoons in shades of green, alongside purple haze needlefish hootchies. Keep the gear tight to the floor as you fish the South side of the bank from 120 to 160 feet. Halibut from 15- 60 lbs are being taken from Oak Bay right around to Albert Head. At this time of the season fish Mackerel, salmon bellies, and octopus when looking for the barn door. For things to do while in Victoria check out http://www.discovervancouverisland.com/things-to-do/top-things-to-do-victoria-bc/. Victoria is also a great place for night life and makes a nice option on your fishing trip. Thanks, Sam Vandervalk Salmon Eye Fishing Charters http://www.salmoneye.net/
  8. Found this recipe from Andrew Zimmern in celebration of Rosh Hashana Ingredient List1 tablespoon cumin seeds2 tablespoons whole white peppercorns1/2 cup kosher salt1/2 cup granulated sugar1/4 cup brown sugar2 cups chopped dill2 cups chopped parsley1 teaspoon crushed red pepper1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest3 tablespoons aquavitOne 2-pound, center-cut, skin-on wild salmon fillet, pin bones removedBagels and cream cheese, blini or scrambled eggs, for serving It seems easy.......almost too easy. InstructionsTotal Time: 30 min plus 2 to 3 days for curing Servings: 12In a spice grinder, combine the cumin seeds and white peppercorns and pulse until finely ground. Transfer to a medium bowl and add the salt, both sugars, dill, parsley, crushed red pepper, lemon zest and aquavit. Mix well. Place the salmon in a glass or ceramic dish, skin side down. Spread the herb paste evenly over the fillet. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the fish feels firm and looks cured in the center, 2 to 3 days. The sides of the fillet will have the strongest flavor and driest texture.
  9. Here's some footage I shot last weekend of salmon and lake trout fishing out of Kenosha Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. YouTube: https://youtu.be/yHAGsg9wkgo Good times, enjoy!
  10. Okay folks, it is getting to that time of year to start heading over to Lake Michigan for salmon. Lets get those reports rolling in. Preferably, port you were fishing, depths you found productive and rigs and baits that you had success with. I am headed to the bank reef in Sturgeon bay this year and will be at the lake from July 13th to the 18th. I am learning new water as I have never fished this area before so it should be a good time. Sounds like the bite is starting to take off over there. I just love the squeal of the drag in the morning! Tunrevir~
