MN BassFisher got a reaction from gunner55 in LOTW Personal Best Walleye!
A group of high school buddies and some of their family make an Annual trip up to Baudette, MN to fish Walleyes on Lake of the Woods. I look forward to this trip each year! Since this is an Annual Trip we all put some money and bragging rights on the line for the Angler who can catch the biggest fish of the weekend, take home the Trophy, $400 Cash and call themselves "Mr. Walleye" for the next 365 days. Watch the first full day of fishing out of Ballards Resort and see 2 new PB's!

Nice! I got out locally in the East Metro on Sunday. By the afternoon the launch was in pretty rough shape. Might have to bust out the ladders to get out this weekend - at best.

Haven’t bought my Minnesota license yet, so I swung over to Cedar Lake in Wisconsin. Despite 50+ degree temps, it was pretty chilly sitting out there in the wind. Ice was starting to pull away from the shoreline on the north end. Caught 16 nice crappies, including two 12 inch slabs. They were very picky though, had to continually hop from hole to hole to get them to bite. Only had minnows. I think I would have been able to catch a few more if I had eurolarvaes. First time fishing this lake...look forward to coming here again next winter.

MN BassFisher got a reaction from minky in Lotw Canadian Slabs!
For our final day of fishing on our stay at Flag Island Resort we went back into the Canadian side of LOTW to target giant Crappies through the ice. We caught good numbers of Crappies along with some real Slabs, throw in a 26" Walleye and Day 3 did not disappoint! It was tough to leave Flag Island but I will be back up there again soon fishing off the grid and taking in the beautiful sights and sounds.

Day 1 up on Flag Island Resort brought us many Walleye, Sauger and Perch on the Minnesota side of Lake of the Woods. Day 2 however we went into the Canadian water to fish an area that has Walleye, Perch, Sauger and some REALLY BIG Crappies! This plan and location did not disappoint - I won't be forgetting this day on the ice!

A group of us recently made it up to Flag Island Resort for 3 days of multispecies ice fishing on Lake of the Woods. The accommodations and folks who worked at the Resort were top notch! Bending over backwards to put you on fish and make your trip one to remember.

The Fishing - Day 1 it was decided to stay, somewhat, close to the Resort in the MN side of LOTW to target Walleye, Sauger and Perch due to 24+ hours of snow. We got into pretty good numbers of fish and some quality fished showed up as well! Below is a video of that action from Day 1.

MN BassFisher got a reaction from leech~~ in Mille Lacs Early Ice
@bassfshin24 and I snuck up to Mille Lacs for 2 days of fishing recently. We were targeting Walleye near shallow structure in the low light hours and bumping out a bit deeper during mid-day. The first day was slow for us but we found more action on Day 2 including my 2nd biggest Walleye through the ice. I also caught my first tagged Walleye! Pay attention for my slip and fall...

I wound up getting on the ice last night and the Crappies were flying out of the green weeds for big baits!

MN BassFisher got a reaction from ANYFISH2 in Personal Best Walleye on Opener
For the 2018 Minnesota Fishing Opener we went up to Lake Vermilion in search of Walleyes. The morning started off slow for us so we changed up the tactics and it resulted in a livewell full of walleyes, a few Slot fish and a new Personal Best!

MN BassFisher got a reaction from eyeguy 54 in Backcountry Bluegills
My Father-In-Law has recently gotten into ice fishing but he hasn't targeted Panfish yet through the ice. With the goal of getting him on some big Bluegills we decided to get off the beaten trail to check out a brand new lake. We loaded up our sleds, hopped on the snowmobiles and put the miles on. With no contour or lake maps we searched for hours with no sign of a Bluegill. That all changed when we stumbled on a shallow and weedy flat. As soon as we got lines in the water the quality fish started showing up! It's always fun when a new lake pans out!

MN BassFisher got a reaction from leech~~ in Surf Fishing on Vacation
While on vacation in Marco Island, FL we went back down to the Beach to do some more Surf Fishing. At the end of our last trip we found a group of rocks that seemed to be holding a lot of different species including Sheepshead and Pompano. We decided to start our day near these rocks this time and they didn't disappoint. We were using 1/4oz and 1/2oz egg sinkers with circle hooks and shrimp to catch all of our fish.

MN BassFisher got a reaction from PurpleFloyd in Peacock Bass Adventure
The Peacock Bass has been on my fishing bucket list since I first saw a picture of one when I was in elementary school. I don't think I'll make it to the Amazon anytime soon so when our Florida vacation was booked I made it a point to get to SE Florida and chase these beautiful specimens! For our adventure we went out near Miami, FL with local guide Captain Scott Rose. He shared a lot of information about this unique fishery and put us on both numbers and quality fish. Our Biggest 5 weighed in at 20.5lbs! This trip was something I won't soon forget.

MN BassFisher got a reaction from Rick in My Last Metro Ice Trip?
I am heading to Florida on vacation in a day and I'm not sure what sort of ice conditions I'm going to come back to in the Twin Cities in April. With that I mind I decided to walk out on a Metro lake with a buddy on Wednesday to try to capitalize on a sundown shallow water bite. We used big baits and fished a shallow weedy point. The Crappies would come flying out of the thick stuff and hammer the baits - it was a lot of fun to watch on the flasher! How late into April do you think we'll be ice fishing in the Metro?

I took my Father out ice fishing recently and he had a blast! The target for the day was large Bluegills here in the Metro with some Crappies mixed in. He doesn't get out ice fishing much so I always enjoy the outings we have together. Father and Son bonding at it's finest!

A few friends and I decided to try our hand at something we've never done before - targeting Channel Catfish through the ice. This definitely proved to be a bit of a challenge and took me out of my comfort zone. After getting a few bites and fish up the hole we started to figure out a method that worked for us. I don't feel like it's the most productive way to catch these fish but it worked out for us that day. At the end of the day everyone in our group caught quite a few fish, had their rods doubled over and left with smiles on our faces. These fish put up a heck of a fight on Walleye gear! I will definitely try to get back up there this season.

It was a tight race going into the last day with not many Slot Fish caught but one bite is all it takes...

What type of Annual trips or traditions do you guys have?
