    Pigs?

you should check out the metrodome. saw quite a few there two weekends ago.
  2. i think you could put two minnows on, but that counts as two lines, just like in the summer.

Full Rut or Not Yet ???

shot mine chasing a doe. jumped them off the logging road and they ran the woods going back the way i came from grunting like a pig. hustled back down the logging road to a straight part in the road. heard some crashing coming from the right. the doe jumped across the road and romeo came running after her, but didnt make it across. that deer was certainly in no need of viagra but i was the only one to see a buck chasing out of 9 guys north of hibbing.
  4. I am jealous of the Wisconsin bowhunters that get to hunt the rut. I grew up in Door County and have lived in loserville, (home of the Vikings, Wolves, and Gophers), for quite awhile now. It is advantageous to hunt with a rifle during the rut, but its alot more fun to be out hunting the rut when it is quiet and the deer dont get disturbed. I think they would end up shooting alot more really big deer in the long run here if they pushed the season back two weeks like Wisconsin's. I think alot fewer 8's and small 10's would get shot on a yearly basis and they would carry over to the next season. I have argued this point with my buddy for awhile. He complains about not as many big bucks here as in Wisconsin. I told him that the timing of the gun season here is just too good and the little guys just take a beating. Of course, over there, the little guys get punished when they visit the bait pile during shooting hours.

nick names for the big buck

Funny how many bucks named "Peace Sign" that guys actually kill would have been named Big Hoss, Dolly Parton, or Bruiser had they missed it.

    MUZZLE LOADER LICENSE

i hunt zone 1 in a management zone. so what you are telling me is that i could have bought a rifle license and then just a bonus tag for the ML season? what if i shot a doe with my rifle and then decided to tag my buck with the ML? i am getting confused by this. call me crazy, but i dont understand why we can't have easy rules to follow for all our outdoors activities. for instance only 4 walleyes 15 to 18 inches on any lake in the state can be kept with one over 28, no lake has a legal musky under 50", buy a fire arms license and use it for the muzzle loader season but follow the rules that are detailed out in the regs for that particular season, etc. for kripes sake, i could be breaking a law by throwing 200 lbs of apples under my deer stand and not even knowing it is against the law. ok, that last one is a joke, but i think you know what i am getting at. i think the state folks spend wayyyyyy to much time making up rules every year to justify their existence. forgive me, but i grew up in wisconsin where you buy a fire arms license and can hunt anywhere you want in the state during that 9 day period, with minimal exceptions, without having to buy something called a multi zone license and that license is your muzzle loader license. exactly why should i spend extra money to hunt in two locations in the state because i own a farm in faribault and hunted that the weekend after i hunted on the land that i owned outside of two harbors? a little bit of common sense would go along ways.

    MUZZLE LOADER LICENSE

they did repeal that ridiculous fee for poratble shelters officially? heard they were talking about it, but never read that it officially was gone. back to the ML question. Why not allow me to buy 2 resident fire arm licenses for the same price that an archery license and a fire arms license costs instead of the inflated cost of the all season tag? if a guy wants to archery hunt in addition to regular fire arms and muzzle loader, then the all season license is a great idea. The point really gets down to the archery season is comparable to the muzzle loader season in that it is completely different from the fire arm opener and should be treated the same with a separate license. I am sorry, I just dont get it. p.s. hopefully McHale's luck with the T-Wolves wont wear off on T-Paw for the Governor's opener this year.

    Who's deer?

i am always wary of finishing off a doe for someone else that is not with me. have heard stories of guys just shooting whatever and not wanting the deer when they see what they have shot. this is especially true when i dont have a doe tag. i tracked and finished a deer off last year for a guy that turned out to be a spike. he said, huh, i thought it was a better buck... you want it? uh, no i dont, you shot it and didnt want to track it and i was just doing the right thing. tag it and take it home. its a hard thing to finish a deer off that you would never shoot on your own because it might end up being yours, but it is the humane thing to do.

    MUZZLE LOADER LICENSE

My dad's muzzle loader license is his rifle license in Wisconsin at no additional cost. I think it is a shameless money grab. i.e. see spending 18 bucks a year to sit in two man portable ice fishing tent. i guess i wouldnt complain so much about that one if they made every camper in this state put an $18 yearly tag just to throw out a tent at a campground.

    DISABLED PERMIT

thats what the guy told me. i told him that was an inaccurate statement of DNR policy as a whole and there is no reason that temporary permits cant be issued. for instance, a guy can apply to use a non magnifying scope for the muzzle loader if they can prove their eyesight is bad via a doctor. however, this permit is only good for two years and has to be renewed. why a temporary permit cant be issued for a temporary diabled person is a matter of they dont want to do it, not that they cant.

    MUZZLE LOADER LICENSE

Thanksfor the information, but why in God's Green Earth, cant I just buy a muzzle loader license in addition to the rifle license?
  12. CAN SOMEONE SHED LIGHT ON HOW THE LICENSE PROCESS WORKS IN THIS STATE? MAYBE I AM MISSING SOMETHING HERE, BUT I FOUND THAT I CAN BUY AN ARCHERY LICENSE, RIFLE LICENSE, OR AN ALL SEASON LICENSE IN MINNESOTA. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WANTED TO MUZZLE LOAD HUNT, I WOULD HAVE TO BUY THE ALL SEASON LICENSE. IS THERE A MUZZLE LOADER LICENSE AND IF SO, WHY CANT I SEEM TO FIND IT IN ANY REGULATION?
  13. I FRACTURED MY KNEE LAST SATURDAY IN A FALL AND AM IN A BRACE. MY FATHER IN LAW MESSED HIS KNEE UP 10 YEARS AGO AND MY UNCLE DID IT BACK A FEW YEARS AS WELL. THEY BOTH WERE ABLE TO PULL PERMITS TO HUNT BACK AT THE SHACK FROM A 4 WHEELER OR THE TRUCK. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY HAVE CHANGED THE LAW AND IT SAYS THAT NO PERMITS WILL BE GRANTED UNLESS IT IS A PERMANENT DISSABILITY. GUY AT THE DNR TOLD ME THERE WAS NO CHANCE I CAN PULL SUCH A PERMIT FOR A TEMPORARY INJURY NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF DOCUMENTATION I HAD. I AM LESS THAN PLEASED WITH THAT ANSWER AND I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO DO THE BEST I CAN WITH WHAT I HAVE. HAS ANYONE RUN INTO THIS NEW WRITING OF THE LAW AND GOTTEN AROUND IT? I AM TRYING TO THINK OF WHAT MAKES MY TEMPORARY SITUATION ANY DIFFERENT THAN SOMEONE THAT HAD SOMETHING THAT WAS PERMANENT, BUT I CANT COME UP WITH ANYTHING. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
  14. talked to my dad last night. he got one out of sturgeon bay. was in 200 fow down 99 feet. he said the same thing, the water has warmed up quite a bit. they have to be moving in soon even if the water is warm.
  15. you get to deeper water closer to shore out of algoma than sturgeon bay. 17' is plenty but you risk the chance of going all the way over there and not getting out of the harbor with any signifcant wind from the south, north, north east or south east. i understand there are fish to be had closer to shore this summer and even some fish coming from the piers under lower light conditions if you choose to not head out 5 mile to the bank out of sturgeon bay. we used to kill them from the pier and in the boat within a mile of shore this time of year in the 80's. of course, there is pretty good perch fishing and smallie action on the green bay side if you cant get on the lake but thats not why you go there for the most part. best of luck.
