    Morson Area Ice

We were up fishing from last Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening. Fishing was great, lots of nice walleyes with a couple of fat 28" fish as the biggest and plenty of saugers. Fish bit all day with our best bite coming each day from about 2-315. Fish were somewhat sluggish from 11-1230 and had to be coaxed into biting or didn't bite at all but after 1230 most everything we marked bit. We were set up in 23-24', color didn't seem to matter although we tend to use gold more than most other colors on our spoons and we basically had every color tied on our set lines and they bit them all. There was about 3-4" of snow on the lake Thursday when we got there but it was a packed 1-2" by the time we left Saturday night. Some areas of rough ice but other areas are nice and smooth, generally about 14-16" of ice where we fished. Can't wait to get back up, good luck if you are going out!

    Turkeys!

That's the way most falls go. I was able to get out and put a gobbler down this fall. Went out just for a bird since I knew where they had been going in the morning. Got to the woods just after fly down and worked my way to the area and heard them talking a bit. Gave out a few yelps and had them running to me. Most years I never get a shot only have taken a handful in the fall. I was in a woods that I was not worried about ruining for deer.

    2018 Pheasant Report

Now that the corn is out and the ground is white the birds are really showing themselves. Three times in the last month I have seen 50-60 birds on a short day. Nearly every one was in a group and they are concentrating in dense thickets of plum brush. And there are literally next to no hunters out and about going after them which is a big change from even a decade ago
  5. I too remember these stupid punch cards in High school. All the Nerds in the Computer class did stuff with um!
  6. I remember those stupid punch cards. I was in junior high and had to “program” em in class. I hated em and thought I’d just avoid using computers altogether!

    2018 Pheasant Reports

Had the day off so hit some public land around the Mitchell area today. Did well, my favorite upland gun is my O/U and is currently broke. Busted a firing pin and waiting for gunsmith to get a knew one made on a lathe. So today I brought out the old 870 which I haven’t shot in at least 5 years or more. Thought it would throw off my shooting but to my surprise managed a quick double on 2 shots lol. it’s always amazing how fast a day in the field can turn around. And I really enjoyed shooting this gun again. It’s amazing how something so cheap and simple is so good. Day started out really slow I couldn’t find birds anywhere and then found the motherload. Shot my 3rd bird, put it in my vest and bumped birds all the way back to the truck. Good late season hunt just wish we had more snow. And this warm weather isn’t helping ice that’s for sure.

  13. The window on AIX that I read Usenet News on was.... I started on computers with punch cards, then moved up to a 2260 and MTMT (multiple terminal monitor task) which was an IBM Rochester homegrown thing for running terminals attached to the 360/65 we had at the time. Actual first computer I ever used was a CDC 1604 at the U of MN.....
  14. There I might have made it a little easier to read Hope we are all still around in another 10 years!!

  21. I just looked and saw that I was also a 10 year member on this site as of 12/11/2008...got me wondering if the fishingmn site was different, as I recall joining in march during a spring crappie boom on red. Sure enough I joining that site as of March 2 2005. It has been a great site to be a part of and have had great conversations, learned a lot, and have sadly seen too many members pass away. Very odd on that part when I find myself shedding a tear for people I had no connection to other than the love of the outdoors and reading and exchanging info on the interweb!

    New 8 X 16 Shack Build

Camera are great. Shielded wire or wireless I use both. rl-sd good info on shielded, wireless I use 5.8ghz drone trans/rcvr effective and inexpensive all 12v run multiple devices, TV, monitors, tablet, smart phone. Forced Air Furcace - only way to go. Ventless has CO issue and will put 4 gallons of water/moisture inside your house for every 20# of propane burned. If you go ventless bring a torch the following morning as the door will most likely be froze shut. I have a 6.5 x 12 WH, 19,000 BTU Suburban vented furnace well insulated took 9 min to heat from 8 deg to 70 deg. You will probably need to go to 25,000 minimum. My cealing at 82" and air duct to center of house & 4" round to door no ceiling fans. Have balanced temp all areas of house. On my next build I will add a second floor 2" and have a 12 x 2" channel from furnace to back of house with 8 x 2 multi channels to sides to duct heat. Fill other area with additional insulation. I don't sleep in mine so no bunks and no range hood. I would go all 12v lighting. Smaller flexible stranded wire, no A/C interference. Lights available equivelent to 75 watt only white, not yellow. You can get remote dimmers for about $12. I made mine 4 years ago putting 50 50 bright white strips in RV lights. Bottom lighting pic before I put the new Suburban furnace in.
  23. Congrats on your 10 years Steve!! Made me look too, and it says since 8-11-2000.......... Holy carp, thats a long time ago!! Back in the day we used to have some pretty big get togethers on the Duluth forum. Many B-side Bash's, a few garbage clean-ups, and a couple Lake Superior get togethers. I've met alot of folks from on here up on URL back in those old days of the Crappie Boom. IBOT's and clamping, oh my
  24. I had my old boss once point out the number of posts I've made here. " But that comes out to be just less than one post a day." "I guess you are right, carry on." And of course, I was also a member of Team Timeout a couple times myself.

10 Years On This Site As Of 12/11/2008

I do most of my posting at work so its a miracle I'm still employed. Also I don't think you can call yourself a true member of the forum unless you've been put on time out at least once. Back in the day I had a few time outs but I never knew why. Whichever mod did it never informed me or gave me a reason.
