Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

What would you do. "Shimano Citica?"

Recommended Posts

I just picked a used Citica 200E that was supposed to be in "like new condition" off a big on line auction site for 80$. Well I opened the box this morning and noticed that who ever owned it before wrote the number 15 on the reel handle, no big deal I thought. I opened the side plate to set the breaks and noticed it only had 5 not 6 of the breaks, one of them was broken off, this thing was described as "like new" and there was no description of the writing on the side or the broken break.

So I write the guy back and described my problem and he offered to let me return the reel. The thing is I want to use it this weekend down at the river and I can live with the writing on the side, and 80$ for a Citica is still a good deal IMO. But will the missing break affect the reel? I went out and casted it and it seems fine and I know some people actually remove the breaks, but how, do they just remove the caps, do they remove the whole breaking system, or just break off some of the pegs like what happened on my reel.

Gunning.. I feel your pain, you were mislead..

Did they just remove the nylon sleeve or is the whole peg gone?. . if your just missing a cast control sleeve, I will send you one...

For me, I can never think of any time I have had all 6 turned on.. I think you will be fine.. but it does worry me if the peg was broken off?

Is there any way you can take a pict of the side plate open?

Aagin, if its just a missing sleeve, I got one and will send it your way, no cost to you.

Thanks Deitz, its not the little white or pink cap. Its the whole peg or spoke, its broken off clean from the base. When you take the side plate off the breaking system looks like a star. I should have a 6 point star but I only have 5 pegs.

I have the box and papers it came with like I said it seems like it casts ok with out it. Could I just order a new break system?

If it were only missing the sleeve I wouldn't worry a bit about it, but since it is missing the entire peg, I would be concerned that it makes the spool out of balance and vibrate on a hard cast thus damaging the bearings. The only thing I believe you can replace is the entire spool, I don't think the brake system is removable. I would fish with it this weekend and return it on Monday. wink

I wouldn't worry about it... just give it a trial run before you order a new breaking system and pump the price up to a new citica...

I was just out side casting trying to find something wrong with it. For the most part it cast pretty good. Caman you bring up a good point, over the long haul maybe it could be doing some damage to the bearings. I could always break off the opposite peg on the wheel to balance it out LOL.

As stated above you could order a whole new spool which would have a new breaking system on it. I could be way wrong on this, but I doubt you will do damage to the bearings.

I do think its kind of ironic that the breaking system is broke.. LOL..

Call up shimano America and see if they have any laying in there parts bin, if your real nice to the guy he might send you one for free grin It worked for me on the same thing for an old green curado, I fished with that thing for 5 years with 3 broken off (imo the weak link in shimanos) and it did no damage or made any noise, then I finally called and got the part

I called shimano today they said they could send me a new spool for $35, I think I will just leave it the way it is for now. River rat does the breaking system just pop off the spool?

    • Yes the trout was biting also, we both brought home 5
    • After hunting Archery only for the last 10 years their is nothing I would change. It is darn frustrating but that is what makes it so fun.
    • Hope your trout fishing was as good as your turkey hunting. Beautiful morning, beautiful bird. Congrats.
    • I wouldn't count on open water for the opener just yet. As of Friday, there was  a good 24" of solid ice yet to melt.
    •   Took a page out of sniper’s book! Had I known what would go down after I woulda let this guy walk though... I’ll get a story up later. 21.6 pounds, 9 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs.
    •   That was quick!
    •   Ha, that's easy. Move to Florida!
    • It would be interesting to know what that bill will be if you don’t mind sharing.   I bought a used Ice Cabin several years ago and had the same issue.  The previous owner didn’t do the grease maintenance according to specs.  Once those things get behind it’s tough to correct.   I went through the whole heat it up/wiggle/pound/swear the things off both sides then did what your welding shop did.  Worked real nice after that.  Took a couple half days to complete though and thankfully I have the tools to do it.  I can’t tell you how long it will last though since I sold it not long after fixing it.     I did stress the importance of keeping up that grease to the new owner!   Glad you got yours taken care of.
    • I just run to my dealer and buy the Suzuki stuff. It's a little more pricey but I don't sweat the extra $5-$10 per year. It cost me $50 for 4L of oil and the filter. I did the lower unit in the fall so I don't remember the gear oil cost.   Mine is a 2009 DF90, so pretty similar. Make sure that when you grease all of the zerks to look in your manual. There is one that you won't see until you tilt your motor all the way up. There is also one below the shift linkage that you can't reach unless you take off the lower skirts on both sides. There's about 10-12 screws holding the skirt on both sides.   Also, be VERY careful when putting the skirt back on. I just did mine again last night and accidentally pinched an air hose near the bottom of the skirts. It cut the hose in half when I put the last screw in place!
    • picking up the house tonight from a welding shop in town, guy said they get new houses that axles seize up on, sounded like they heated it up, broke it free, sand it down, grease it, add groves and it should be set. kind of scared to see how much they're going to charge me...
