Swine Flu Pandemic

So what's all your thoughts on the swine flu ordeal?

Hopefully it just fades out like the SARS deal did. This seems to be spreading like wildfire though

So far all the cases in the US have been mild from what I hear. Perhaps the elderly and very young are at a slightly elivated risk but personally I think people are just trying to sell newspapers and boost tv ratings.

I'm not going to worry about it.

At least in Mexico, it was mostly 25-50 year olds that died.

Influenza is not something to mess with.

At work last night I wanted to start a pool to see who would be the first to get swine flu. No one was interested. I dont think its gonna become like 1919, more like SARS. On this one farm I hunt in SD, theres a row of graves where an entire family was killed by the flu in 1919. 7 little flags. I always stop and take a moment there. I hope somebody remembers me when I`m long since worm food. Or buzzard food depending on how I end up.

I think this could have been started deliberately. Maybe Mexico City because that would get around the globe fastest.

I did see the cases that were in South Dakota turned out not to be the swine flu

hopefully it will not get as bad as in 1919. but back then they did not have the medical tec we have now days. If people just watch what they are doing and take a few percautious, we should be fine.

Remember, people, this has NOTHING to do with eating pork. This is killing the hog market for no reason.

If its really killing the hog market lets change the name to the Rib Eye/T Bone Flu.

One thought I've had is do those dust or surgical masks really provide any level of protection? If you think about it, the virus is microscopic and if the mask is restrictive enough to filter the virus, wouldn't it also filter the air to the point of suffocation?

There is a certification for viral masks, I've heard 3M has the only two models that have been certified so far if that means anything. They are ramping up production because the availability is very low; most masks available will help offer very little protection.

The type of mask needed for this is rated N95. Yes 3M makes them but so do many other companies.

All I can say is that I am glad I was there in March before all this started. That would be a bummer to cut short, or cancel a vacation.

It just gives all the hypochondriacs something to cry to their doctors about about.

Remember as of 830 this morning there were only a few confirmed cases in the US and no deaths.

And I thought I was going to have to use my chemical suite for a dirty bomb might as well pull it out of the drawer and iron it. I like a crease going up the leg that way I will fit in at the Ordway.

Anybody know how to prevent those unsightly rings around the cheeks when you take off the respirator

I am more worried about people panicking and the ensuing chaos if this thing gets going, more than the flu itself.

Probably a case of Chicken Littles, "The Sky Is Falling!" Every so often we get one of these alerts and then they come out with the super duper flu shot that will ward off the evil germs.

Then they will run out of the serum and after the price goes up, they will miraculously find somemore. Sometime the flu shots themselves kill people.

If you listen to the media, we'er all screwed and they will run with it for all it's worth, panic as many as they can and keep everyone on edge, thats news man, that jacks the ratings. "Quick Martha, turn on the news, see where that flu is at, then we we'll run away and hide with our little white dust masks on!"

People will stop going to ball games, casinos, church gatherings, races, bowling alleys, anywhere that they might come in contact with the flu bug...then they will get it anyways, be sick for awhile, get over it and be back to normal, just like with all the other flu bugs over the years....I've been hearing this stuff in one form or another, since I was a kid and thats a loooong time ago!

Its a natural cycle of life. Mother Natures way of weeding out the weak. But never fear! Governments of the world are always trying to legislate away natural selection...Oh, by the way..our planet warms and cools too!

EAT MORE PORK! Its Mexican flu...has nothing to do with pork.

Only thing I know for sure about swine flu is tht its still more interesting to hear the gals on Univision talk about it than the gals on CNN HLN or FoxNews. Although Heidi Collins is pretty interesting. I think I shoulda been born Latino. It does seem like the news is really reaching on this one. Isnt there like 20 million people in Mehico City? And 160 have died from it? Theres probly 160 people die in Mehico City from 18 different things everyday.

That swine flu isn't anywhere near as deadly as that Mexican drug cartel automatic weapon fire!

That flu bug is gonna have to get to steppin if it wants to kill as many people as the drug business south of the border does....wasn't it over 6000 last year?

Everybody Panic!!!!

meh, the herd could use some thinning

I am not going to panic but when the Governor comes on the radio and announces that a school not far from where my 3 kids go to school is closing as a "precaution" I am concerned... sure hope they arent part of the herd that gets thinned, wow what a class act, I allways (used to) hold this site in higher regard as one where there wasnt a lot of the b.s dumb comments you see in others.
