Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

You know what we all love...

When you enchant people, you fill them with delight and yourself in return. Have Fun!!!

First Steelhead

Recommended Posts

I grew up in SE Minnesota, and caught some rainbow back in the day when I still used live bait, but it has been over a decade since I caught a rainbow. The biggest went about 17".

This past week, I was working in southern Michigan. Saturday night and Sunday I was in Lansing, Michigan. I just bought my 2009 Michigan license, and wanted to go out on the Grand River in Lansing Saturday evening, but got rained out.

I got up this AM and fished the Grand. I was thinking more about post-spawn walleye, although I heard people were catching a few steelhead making their run up from Lake Michigan.

I was fishing a crawler in a long eddy below a dam in Lansing, and something hit my bait and ran with it. I set the hook, thinking it was a carp. When I set the hook the fish rolled, and I saw enough to think "that is one strange-looking carp". The fish surfaced a couple more times and I realized I had a steelhead--I had never seen one in the flesh before.

I was using medium-light tackle with 6 lb. test (remember, I was fishing for walleye), and had no net, so getting the fish in took a little bit of finesse. At one point I said out loud "if I lose this fish I might just cry". (I wasn't totally kidding.)

I ended up grabbing it by the lower jaw (and have the gashes on my thumb to show for it grin ). My first steelhead measured 28". I've heard steelheading is addictive--after this morning, I can see why.

Congratulations! At 28" that is one heck of a fish, especially only 6lb test. Take any photos?

Got six or seven photos. I left my digital camera in Iowa, so I had to stop at a convenience store and buy a disposable. It may be a while before I have the roll full, but I'll post some when I have them developed.
