Adjust Motor RPMs??

Recommended Posts

I did my spring tune up and took my boat out last week. I have a 1993 Mercury 2 stroke 4 cyl. 40 h.p. motor but now the RPMs are running at 6,000 and I need to reduce it to 5,500. Could someone tell me if this is a simple adjustment that i could do myself?

What did it run last year? Did you put a different prop on it?

You have two options here - 1) Get a higher pitch prop (which will get you a little more top end speed, but lose a little hole shot) or 2) Back off on the throttle slightly to keep your rpm's where they need to be.
