Heavy Northern Pike Ice Rod

8 posts in this topic

One of my goals next winter is to target larger northerns a few times and fish "trophy" lakes more often.

After landing several 5 to 10 pound fish this winter I think I may need to step up from my medium action ice rods. Going to use my summer pike/muskie reel, an Ambassadeur 6000 with superline.

Does anyone out there make a heavy action ice rod that has some action but isn't a pool cue? I have a 24" HT heavy action but it has no flex at all.

I have a 42" Thorne Brothers Professional that would do the trick nicely. Its also a great Laker rod.

Jason Mitchell makes a heavy rod for lakers that would work nicely. the 36MH Mackinaw rod. Sells for about $40

I've been checking on the models and all three look great. The twisted guide concept on the Mitchell rod is pretty interesting.
