Big Marine Lake

2 posts in this topic

We will be staying at the Vets Camp on Big Marine Lake this summer for about 3 weeks. Any idea on where to fish for bass would be a big help. Also are crappies and blue gill still plentiful, need to take the grand kids out fishing

There really isn't a bad spot on Big Marine for bass. And, you can fish it just about any way you like. There's shallow, deep, and even in between fish.

There's still plentiful panfish. The size is a bit suspect, but if you need to entertain kids, they are just about everywhere.

Shoot me an email closer to your trip, and I'll try to give you some better ideas.

    • Joe wants to take him out behind the gymnasium...
    • I'd watch that porn.
    • I don't remember the brands, but I noticed a few years ago while standing in the swamp that the empty hulls were different lengths for two different brands.  And it just so happened that the longer ones gave me all sorts of headaches with failing to cycle.  Of course when the shells were crimped shut, they were all the same length.

    • shells look short for some reason....
    • It's going to be a long few days of work for me after reading this. I picked up my trail cams over the weekend. Both showed some daytime buck activity in the mornings just after sun-up. One of them I couldnt get to until 4:30pm. I watched the videos and saw a nice 8PT standing in front of it at 4:21ish. Then a vid of me walking past 9 minutes later.
    • SE MN is slowly getting taken out. Was out to pick up some trail cams over the weekend and saw some combines in the process... Majority of the fields I saw from the road are still full of standing corn though.
    • I gave mine a week and then mulched.  For me, its kind of a guessing game.  I don't think you want to mulch real warm ground and have the garlic grow too much under that mulch and on the other hand you don't want to let the ground start freezing.  I'm sure there is an ideal soil temp, but I guess I don't know what that is.  I mulched on a morning that we had frost on the ground.  I don't think you want a couple of weeks of warm sun to really get it growing.
    • I was out on Saturday as well, and boy was it tough. We stuck a couple of fish and missed a couple more right away in the morning, then ran to the access to pick up the third guy, and when we got back to the spot the fish were shut down.

We marked tons of fish all day but found very few biters. Still a heck of a nice day to be on the water, though!
