Thoughts on this idea...?

50 posts in this topic

Well,

I was just thinking after church today that a lot of things I learn are from church and there are some good messages that people don't get to hear because of a ll the different churches. I know a lot of us FM'ers are pretty relegious and I was wondering if we could get a Forum on here where people can share their thoughts and post the notes the took during the sermin. I usually take some kind of notes and my church hands out the "summary" of what they talk about on a half sheet of paper. I could share what the half sheet says and the notes i took.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Jordyn

interesting idea -- i think it would be a good forum idea as long as people did not "stuff things" down at people.

I say go for it.

Certainly interesting, Jordyn. I like the idea, and fact that you want to share with others things you learn / believe that help you personally and spiritually. It might get some opposition from some, but I say go for it also.

ps - did you check out the Teen Challeng fishing challenge ??

You are a wise young man Jardyn smile

I'm game as long is it's civil. IMO, you can learn many things by listening to others. They don't have to be your religion to have a good message.

I also think its good. But it also needs to be civil like Wish says. Heck I could post notes while at church from my cell phone. Not that I would ever be looking at the forum druing church or anything wink. Now I will be thinking of this during the sermin tomorrow.

Yeah i will agree about the Civil.

I wouldnt want it to go South and if something did happen we should notify the Moderators or Admin immediatly!

I did check out the Teen Fishing Challange and I haven't asked my dad yet but i will!!

Its a noble idea. Not to be insensitive but this is an outdoors forum and bringing religion in as a topic would make things uncomfortable for me.

I don't mean to offend I apologize if I have as I am a spiritual person but may not be recognized or agree as spirituality.

I agree with croix on this one, different religions can be a bad apple for some on there beliefs, and not everyone will agree with others on some subjects. look at the gulf war, this is all about religion.

Very true croix flats,

But maybe it could be added to the Misc. Forums...

And it could just be like the message from your church and what you think of it.

just a post but make it so noone can reply maybe?

so it's more of a reading than a debate, I guess you could put it

Great Idea Jordyn. I wouldn't want to see it as a debate site either, but more of as a learning/sharing section. We talk about almost anything else on here, why not the most important thing? If this does turn out, please don't label it "Religion" as that is not what its about.

this is a open forum for us to use for our outdoor pasions. why do we need or could it even work, of a thread that just preaches at us?

this is the open water site, why is this here?

jordyn, you are very commited to your beliefs, and I commend you on that, but this is not the arena for that to come out, and to purswade others in your direction.

It wouldn't be for "persuading" other people, if you don't want to open it, then don't. It's as simple as that. There are some forums on here that I rarely ever open, if even ever. Just because I am not interested in that topic, doesn't mean I don't want to have it be a great supplement to the forum. Why is it on the open water forum? Because this is one of the only general discussion areas that gets frequented the most. If you know of a better spot for it to be able to be seen by other interested members, feel free to post a recommendation up.

knoppers,

it's just a thought...

im not trying to persuade other in my direction at all..

I just know on here there are quite a few members who are really in depth in their relationship with Christ and I think those people could share with us some things they learn at church.

Like tonight at church i learned about "Lean Living", it was actually a series of messages, that helped me learn how to spend my money. Like spending on things you need, not what you want. Spending money that you HAVE, not fake plastic money(credit cards). All the materialistic things you buy in your life will

be gone when you die but the things you do in your life and the memories you make will last forever!

You see it's not all about relegion OR believing in God, but it is a life lesson just as much as anything else.

Yes I am quite in depth in my relationship with Christ, but if your not in a relationship with God or Christ then you can take it as a life lesson more then anything...

And if I am correct, God created the amazing outdoors. And my passion for the outdoors is not as great as my passion and love for God

what I am saying, is your on FM for fishing and other outdoor activitys, so why do I come here to here others preach about there god? I bet there are sites you can go to for your quest. its like politics, we don't need to hear you preach to us, is that clear to you? this subject needs to get locked.

Jordyn you asked for an opinion now it is a debate. So what you propose there wont be any debate. Can anybody assure postings will not be offended by anyone's beliefs. If not then the spirit of this site will be broken.

And you preached and that is what I am afraid will happen

Knoppers, apparently you are not getting the point of this topic, and I really do not want to start a debate about this. But I will say again, it is not for preaching, it would be for discussion. There is a forum for entertainment and tv shows, that is definately not directly related. I would sure vouch to say that a majority of users on this site would not mind having it on here, and it could be used as a great learning and teaching tool. No, I don't think this thread should be locked due to its potential for a great amount of information that could be gained on this site.

You may not feel as it is preaching but to others it may/does and apparently you are not getting the point of the opposing view.

If not then the spirit of this site will be broken.

For 1 I would like to know what exactly that is.

and second, I do understand the otherside totally, people set in thier ways don't want to be opposed by other/uncomfortable ideas, but, they will not be forced to click that mouse and open that topic. If that is deemed as being offensive, then the outdoors/civil discussion should not be on here, because, most topics in there are all oppoing Ideas and debates. Once again, No preaching, just teaching.

    • Looks like we have at least 1 faithless elector so far.
    • Of the 2 candidates that had a chance at winning, Hillary was the only one that had anything resembling a plan to help rural America. Hillary's plan just didn't resonate because it basically was modernizing rural America, and rural America wants to relive a past that is no longer achievable.    Unfortunately a libertarian is probably an even worse choice for rural areas. While a libertarian would cut federal taxes, they also would significantly cut spending to things like infrastructure where rural areas have a disproportionate maintenance cost to local tax revenue ratio. The Libertarian "privatize everything" or "leave it to the states" mentality would likely lead to many roads becoming toll roads in order to pay for maintenance. And those tolls are by and large paid by locals, increasing costs of local goods and making area businesses less competitive.
