Best antenna for digital converter box at the cabin

Question

What are the options for getting reception if you are out of town? Don't want cable/satellite. That's bait money. Any specifics as to brand, where to buy? What about signal boosters? It is about 60 miles one way and 35 miles the other way to the towers. The stations say I should be able to get them but won't give recommendations as to specific antenna setups.

Thanks, lakevet

You'll want to get a good UHF/VHF antenna, and a booster isn't a bad idea either. Mount it as high as you possibly can. 60 miles is a good distance and height will be needed to get a good sniff of those channels. Winegard and Channel Master are two brands that come to mind. I used a powered booster that I picked up at Radio Shack.

Check the antennaweb dot org HSOforum. You can put in your zipcode and it lists the stations around, plus the distance, direction, and some recommendations as to the general style/size of antenna you'll need.

As far as I know though, it doesn't give specific brand recommendations.

You might want to check and see if the TV stations that you are trying to get will actually be switching to digital. The stations around Grand Rapids that are coming off a transponder will stay analog for a few more years.

Right now you are getting channel 6,8,21 off of the transponders on blueberry hill and channel 10/13 from Hibbing. You would need a antenna for 10/13.
