Put a jumper cable on the frame of the tow vehicle and the other end to the trailer. If your lights work its a ground issue. If this is a tilt trailer you'll want that clamp on the trailer bed somewhere. Check the ground connection on the trailer. If its a tilt trailer you should attach a ground strap from the tongue to the bed at the tilt location.

so i finally got out and took a look at the light. pulled the bulbs and wires out of the casing and turns out the brown wire that runs from the small bulb to the big bulb wasnt connected to the big bulb. it had been torn off. i think im just going to replace the whole light on that side since the plastic base which connects to the trailer is slightly cracked and loose anyways.
