Members Only Fluid Forum View   08/08/2017

Fluid forum view allows members only to get right to the meat of this community; the topics. You can toggle between your preferred forum view just below to the left on the main forum entrance. You will see three icons. Try them out and see what you prefer.   Fluid view allows you, if you are a signed up member, to see the newest topic posts in either all forums (select none or all) or in just your favorite forums (select the ones you want to see when you come to Fishing Minnesota). It keeps and in real time with respect to Topic posts and lets YOU SELECT YOUR FAVORITE FORUMS. It can make things fun and easy. This is especially true for less experienced visitors raised on social media. If you, as a members want more specific topics, you can even select a single forum to view. Let us take a look at fluid view in action. We will then break it down and explain how it works in more detail.   The video shows the topic list and the forum filter box. As you can see, it is easy to change the topic list by changing the selected forums. This view replaces the traditional list of categories and forums.   Of course, members only can change the view to better suit your way of browsing.   You will notice a “grid” option. We have moved the grid forum theme setting into the main forum settings. This makes it an option for members only to choose. This screenshot also shows the removal of the forum breadcrumb in fluid view mode. Fluid view remembers your last forum selection so you don’t lose your place when you go back to the listing. The benefit of this feature is easy to see. It removes a potential barrier of entry for members only. It puts the spotlight on topics themselves, and not the hierarchical forum structure. You as a member will enjoy viewing many forums at once and switching between them without leaving the page. We hope that fluid view, the new functionality is an asset that you enjoy .

New Shimano reel

Recommended Posts

Im looking to purchace a new rod and reel set up for fishing walleye bass and maybe some pike. Ive gone to the store several time to play with the new Shimano Stradic 2500fi and I love how it feels. I have heard many great things about it but I have also heard some bad things about the bails. Whats your guys input, any experience with this reel? Would it be better to take the step up to the Sustain? -Thanks

Don't know anything about this new reel, but I have 3 other Stradics , and have never had issues with them. The Sustains are nice!!!!

With the rod I'm building, I'm going to put a Stradic MgFB on it. They are lighter than the original Stradics. Check these out also $229.00

I have 3 of the new 2500 and 1 1000, no bail problems yet either. Very durable reels. If it were me, I wouldn't upgrade to the Sustain. I don't think i'd get much extra performance out of it - maybe I should finally try one?

Get a better rod, or another rod; that's a pretty proven path to burn extra cash. I use mostly glx and legend rods and have either shimano stradics or pflueger presidents and supreme reels on them all. I've seen the xt supreme models for cheap... Ugly as PoorWordUsage, but a good reel.

I build IMX & have one St. Croix legend Elite. Not sure if I'm going to try a GLX or not. I will be extending the handle, so it kind of defeats the GLX as far as rod weight goes.

I love my stradics and I haven't heard of any coming back to the retail stores do to any bail problems. The newer models are a little more "doctored up", but are as reliable as ever.

My buddy swears by the mg's. I have used his before and they sure do feel nice. His don't hold as much line, but he says that it just forces him to change his line more often... I guess it works for him.

Before you settle on the 2500 size, take a look at the 3000 size. It has a diffrent handle that I really liked so I upped to the 3000. Don't think there was a much diffrence in size.

I actually went with the Saros (very smooth), couldn't justify the extra cost for the new Stradic. I do have two ot the FE Stradics and am very happy with them.

Im pretty sure that the new 3000 is actually a little lighter than the 2500. Don't quote me, but I couldn't tell the difference when I held them.

I looked at the Mg's last night. For the 2500 they 9.0 oz. The regulat Stradic weighs 9.5 oz.

The mg's are nice, but depending on how the Loomis SJR 842 extended to 7'9" feels I may need the extra weight to balance.

My first thought is if weight isn't an issue, should I spend the extra for a Mg, or go with a Sustain, or stay with a Stradic

Deitz, maybe you can weigh in on this, since you know these reels grin.

Rod- as I stated in my above post. For me, I dont think the loss in weight makes up for the dollar ammnt needed to spend. But again, I can only speak for myself. For me, a reels weight is not felt as much as the weight of a rod, As its held in your hand. Placing that monies on a lighter rod or a rod that is ballanced better will "feel" lighter.

Again, just my opinion... I own regular Stradics, not the Mg. If you have the money, the Sustain is a step up!

Thanks Deitz. I'll wait until I get done building the rod and then decide.

I'll look you up at the show.

    • If you weren't going nuts in your man cave or where ever, like all those folks on YouTube, are you really a fan?   My hound was barking like a mad dog to get back in the house because the Mrs and I were screaming bloody murder.   Is this the year? I sure hope so for my 85 year old Dad, who brought me to my first ever NFL game.........the Ahmad Rashad hail Mary catch against the Browns. Which taught me it's never over till it's over.
    • Looking good PF!!  My daughter came home with a trouble maker last weekend,  cute little poop ( golden retriever) but a handful,  ya that rug doesn't belong there..
    • Yup.....those are the ones I use also. Work  just fine. 1 con.....the rolls are 50 ft. long and don't fit into a machine with bag storage, so you have to cut them by hand. But the price is excellent.
    • Great Saturday to build some pork loin jerky. Got round 1 in the smoker round 2 still in the bucket.
    • At the KMart at Nicollet and Lake in Minneapolis, there is a flock of pigeons that numbers several hundreds. Last Thursday going home from the Super Market I saw a large hawk make a strike at one, but missed.  This was a pretty dark bird overall and much bigger than a Coopers or a Sharpshin and heavy bodied not at all slender.  The attack was a straight line shot from a street light roost on a bird sitting on the shorter parking lot light post.  It seems to me that the attack was launched from a perch about a block away.  The target flew off and there was no chase, the attacker just returned to its previous roost.  I could not get over into the turn lane and go into the parking lot to get a closer look.  The main flock of pigeons didn't actually seem to notice, and there were even some stragglers. Is it possible that goshawks are starting to come into the city in the winter?  From a goshawk I would have expected a chase.  There are certainly plenty of pigeons, and the local falcons have gone south...  I know they are supposed to avoid human concentrations, but then so are loons and they are now common city residents and rest here when passing through in the spring.  We are getting all kinds of wild life in the Cities these days and not all of it goes around just on two legs.
    • I'm soon to be 40, still have never had a REAL super bowl party!   I will sit and hope.   Besides, at 7:11 last Sunday I pulled something in my neck/shoulder.  Might be a hole in my sister and brother in laws garage ceiling.
    • Lol. Dad and I were talking about this after the game last weekend after I had to tell him over and over that I have not been alive when the vikes have ever played a Super Bowl. You old timers can believe in what you want, but us Gen-X kids are saying SKOL!
    •   I'm sure if I had the time I could have spent 10 more minutes and made a nice one out of Oak or Cherry wood! Or found a blue Genz box on C/list and been done with it!
