Real Fisherman!!

18 posts in this topic

Nice to finally be where the fisherman are real and the [PoorWordUsage] is left at the door step. Unlike the other place. Of course some of you guys that I have fished with kept this place a secret from me. I won't mention any names Doug.

Thunderman...I remember that day, was the only ice to be found. Were you one of the ones that stayed for the night bite??? That's when it happened that day. I think cnytim was there along with a few others.

Dark Cloud...Give him a little pinch to go along with that punch. You and your dad live way to close for me not to hook up with you guys at some point this winter.

Killed the huge gills at Cole yesterday. A few of them hit 10inches most were 8-9 but its been getting hit hard there. I think everyones been using minnows for crappie and have left the gills alone. I'll try to hook up with you guys Sunday late afternoon/evening if you guys go out.

Nice to be here Kirkville!!

Welcome aboard Kappy, I'm sort of new here myself although I know a few of the guys from years back. See you're from the Southern Tier so just make sure you represent the area as well as those two fine gentlemen do gringringrin. On second thought maybe the one fine gentleman, right AW? Sorry DC.

Mark...If I don't go Saturday I can leave my extra trap just inside the barn door. I can also leave my power auger if you want, that ice is thick up there. [PoorWordUsage] i'll even leave my little truck with both traps and the auger loaded in the back if you just want to take that. I know its hard for Dustin to get out with the new baby. Have dustin give me a call.

Pman...The only fun thing to do in the Southern Tier is fish or hunt and us boys down here learn to do that well. But I do love the Madison county lakes.

"A few years back"? - It's been a long time, I was just a wide-eyed teenager pounding perch on the north shore. grin

"Gentleman" - You must be talking about Tank because that word does not go with AW or DC. crazy

DC I remember the wide eyed teen-ager part, but according to others, not sure if it was perch you were "pounding" shocked. Yeah I was talking about Tank, figured if I didn't try to exclude you from the "two fine gentlemen" remark AW and Timmy would have been all over me.

Kappy welcome also . . .you must have a good memory if you can remember when DC had wide eyes . . .unless of course you got it mixed up when he bent over a hole. Some would say the face looks the same either way.

    • You might be able to figure things out this week.  How big is your sump basket?  Is the  pump kicking in now?  Sit there for 15 minutes and count the number of times it cycles.  That should give you a decent idea on how much water is coming in.  Then figure out about how high the water has to go before it flows by gravity.  The spec for the pump will say something like that it can pump 2,000 gph at 10 feet of lift.  (the gph drops dramatically the higher it has to pump the water).  The answer to your specifics will give you an idea of how big of a pump you need.  If you match the size of the pump as close as possible to the amount of water your will face you can maximize the amount of time the battery backup will last.   Faced with this problem I took a standard boat sump pump and modified it so I could hook up a garden hose.  The I took an old shop extension cord and wired the pump so I could hook it up to a car in the garage.  So just prior to having Noah float by I could hook things up in the garage and be good to go for as long as I had gas in the car to pump up the battery.   Now that I am adult I bought a generator and wired the house to take care of things.
    • Inevitably at least twice each season I will leave the house, drive 45 minutes and walk some of my favorite grouse spots for hours and hours, seeing nothing.  Admitting defeat on that day, I will drive 45 minutes back home, only to find a covey of birds in the driveway...
