Vikings on the Move!

I don't see how LA can be building a stadium. I mean the state is bankrupt, they don't even have the money to pay out income tax returns. Something just isn't right about this.

I might be a Packer fan, but I'd hate to see the Vikes leave, it's a pretty good rivalry and Packer/Vikings gamesare always alot of fun to watch.

Mabe we should make Sid pay for it. After all, the dome was his idea, he was the loudest voice in the "... we need to get out of Metro Stadium and into an indoor building..." Then as soon as they were in the dome it was "...We need an outdoor stadium, or we will never compeat..."

I am done with this team. Casual fan from now on. After "Ziggy Town" fell threw and the realestate man pulled out of Anoka county I knew it was over. And I think most fans knew it. The Wilfs muffed it, the end of the Vikes was in the cards then, and it is in the cards now.

I would suspect that if there is no money to send out income tax returns, that would be the #1 sign that there should be no income tax return for this year. If they want to send them out for next year, they should probably look at cutting expenses. But that is a whole other topic...

Exactly. They just announced St. Paul is loosing police, fire fighters and will be plowing snow less often among other things because of the budgets. Things aren't any better in California, in fact they are probably worse. Ziggy can try to blow what ever smoke up our rears he wants. No one cares what the billionaire wants. I bet Ziggy ends up trying to sell the team. The dome does suck but they could play in the Gopher stadium while they referbish the dome.

Interesting read on Pro Football Talk dot com about this very subject.

NFL NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN ROSKI’S L.A. STADIUM?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 13, 2009, 8:44 a.m.

As Ed Roski’s “if they come, I will build it” effort to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles moves forward, we’re compelled to share some of the whispers we heard in Tampa, in the days preceding the Super Bowl.

One theory we heard, from someone who has been keeping fairly close watch on the efforts to place football back in the L.A. area, is that the NFL isn’t genuinely interested in the stadium that Roski and company hope to build in the city of Industry, California.

And the league, we’re told, won’t be interested in any L.A. option until there are two or more of possibilities that are available at or about the same time. This would permit the league to leverage one against the other, and to strike the best possible terms for the placement of one or more teams there.

So why is Roski’s stadium getting so much play? In our view, it’s because the possibility of the venue coming to fruition provides teams like the Vikings and the Saints and the Chargers and the 49ers and the Raiders will additional leverage in their efforts to get better deals in their current locations.

The other reality at play here is that quasi-serious talk of putting a team in the nation’s No. 2 market typically arises only when it’s time to negotiate new contracts with the various television networks. Eventually, however, the league will need to deliver on the possibility of putting one or more teams there. If the economy doesn’t recover within the next three years, the league might have to move quickly in order to maintain or expand the current dollars paid to the NFL for the right to broadcast the games when most of the current deals expire after the 2011 season.

Thus, even if Roski’s stadium isn’t currently being viewed as a serious potential location for an NFL team, the league might soon find itself needing to slap something together fairly quickly. If that happens, Roski could be in the right place at the right time.

That's right. L.A. has already passed all the ordinances needed to start building a stadium for a new franchise or one to call L.A. their new home. This is not just in the works...it's done. They are waiting to build until they can confirm a deal with a franchise or secure a team via expansion. Most likely the team will come to them relocating from another city. L.A. Lakers, Dallas Stars...teams have a history of leaving this state.

As much as I would hate to see them go I can't even imagine them getting time on the floor to be heard in the next 18-24 months. Pro sports has gotten to be about all that's wrong with society, too much money, too much greed and a me first attitude among most of the players and owners. Fans are loyal, players for the most part are not. It is a free market, if you can get a better deal elsewhere its your choice, however it is also my choice to not care. I loved the North Stars, was a huge fan. I was crushed when the left but guess what, I got over it. I found other things to occupy my time. I love the Vikes and would not like to see them leave but if you want me to pay for you to stay, I'm sorry.

What I don't understand about the Vikes stadium is the following:

Gopher Stadium cost $288 million

Twins Stadium cost with roads, etc. $522 million

Vikes Stadium cost $950 million

The Vikes stadium cost does not have a dome included or I don't think it includes the infrastructure like roads, bridges, etc. like the Twins stadium includes.

How can the Vikes stadium double or triple the other 2 stadiums. They only play 10 games a year there and 2 are preseason.

Amen setterguy. I love all professional sports but it's getting ridiculous. Salaries are going up and up, tickets are going up and up, advertising and commercialism have run rampant, and the end product is tainted, overexposed and overexpanded, and inferior . Now you can't even watch pro sports on public TV anymore, all the cable networks are bidding and buying up all the contracts. It's reaching the breaking point for most fans where they will just become apathetic.

Why cant the state just do a $$ donation program at tax season, for instance, would you (any tax payer)like to donate X number of dollars of your return for a new stadium? And see what the public comes up with? I would probly donte $20-$30 dollars and see what happens, if they dont get enough the money gets refunded? Or carry it over to the next year? yeah ok may be a dumb idea but hey it may also be worth a shot right?

When choosing between the Twins and Vikes I was hoping the Vikes would get their stadium since MLB can't install a salary cap.

However since the Twins now have their stadium I think this state needs one less team to support with taxpayer money. Bye, bye Vikes.

the vikes could have had there stadium in blaine it was all there the city even spent 20 million to upgrade the airport to handle the increased traffic from the exec planes the state was going to fund most of the project they told ziggy that he was going to have to pay for the roads that neede to be changed he backed out. I say let them go somewere else.why shoud we have to pay for them to make more money.. A jeez guys im a little short this month think some of you could give up some of yours so that I can have more.good bye and good ridence

I thought the state had a little more to do with him backing out of the Blaine deal. I don't think it was that cut and dried. I thought there was something about them not wanting them to leave downtown so they did some things that kyboshed it.

Just in state income tax paid by the players it would probably end up being a good deal. A lot of money for a little over 24 hrs of football each year. If they paid for an open air stadium how many super bowls would be played there? One or less would be my guess. If more of the guys were good role models like Matt Birk than I would say keep them here. L.A. sounds good. See ya later.

LA is looking better by the day. Who knows in the future they may make us pay to watch on tv like baseball is doing to us now. Would you really pay to watch a vikings game on TV. A new stadium paid buy fans and by people who don't care about football is only a stepping for these owners to make more money off our backs.

Have we not learned yet with these over payed pro athletes we are getting the shaft.

How much did the Twins stadium cost us along with the gopher and add the excel to it then now a Vikings stadium. I waiger a conservative $1 billion from the public. Not including the stadium we all ready have and the tax is still there we are still paying if you shop in Minneapolis.

I personally hope they build a stadium. Would be nice If Ziggy would kick in quite a bit. The bottom line is there is more than just a stadium on the line here. There are a lot of jobs on the line with the team. All of the revenue that they bring in and the taxes that they bring in. Losing the Vikes would hurt a lot more that just the sports fans.

Cut the players salaries in half and then no problem they could pay for their own stadium. I wouldn't mind seeing all pro sports fold. Make it a max salary of 100,000 and i'll watch again. Would actually find out who really wants to play.

Yea, that would work?.? I'm sure the players wouldn't just go to another team. I do agree all atheletes are way over paid and that should be cut accross the board but it will never go back.
