Gun Facts- Debunk Gun Control Myths

14 posts in this topic

Ever try and talk about guns to a person who feels that if they simply outlawed every gun, our problems would go away? If so, you'd agree that it's frustrating because it seems that regardless of what you say, they'll never get it.

Well, I found this HSOforum that gives the straight facts about guns in this world. It's really good ammo to pull out when the topic comes up.

When I find myself talking to folks that think that way, I don't bother arguing with them. They will never change their mind and their "feelings" block any effort to get them to look at facts and use logic.

that said, thanks for the link. It will come in handy when talking to those that are on the fence or not strongly opposed.

It is called prejudice and close minded. Before you even open up your mouth you are judged to be wrong and obviously they will not actually hear what you are saying as they have already decided you are wrong.

I feel the same way about NRA fanatics.

And before anyone blows a gasket I own two guns & have never picketed a gun show...the gun debate has become like the abortion debate - so polarized between the two polar opposites that neither side even hears the other one. It's lonely here in the middle. Not only that, but my middle looks objectionable & unreasonable to both sides.

I am with you. As a lifelong hunter, and owner of about a dozen guns including semi automatics; I find the NRA to be inflamatory, delusional, and out of touch with the needs of hunters and gun owners. They seem to have their own agenda which doesn't coincide with me and other gun owners. They seem all about creating false urgency, and polarization.

But they aren't the only ones.

Both sides have become less about the actual debate of the role of guns in our society, but more about the self preservation of their groups. Their all about 'winning' so the middle then becomes unreasonable.

Both sides are trying to illicit fear to an issue that I think the majority of Americans are pretty happy with the way things are.

You have the crazies on each side of the spectrum that always seem to think the sky is falling and try to drum up some fear, and the majority of us in the middle who go about our lives.

Most people don't think "guns" are an issue worth talking much about. For one, the debate is mostly settled; and second there is too much other stuff going on right now that warrants the oxygen of the political fires.

I believe that as one side moves farther away from the middle the other side is forced to do the same to keep the balance. The fear on both sides is if one gives a little the other will take advantage of that. And in many ways this is a good thing because I believe a vast majority of people are somewhere in the middle on this issue and are Ok with things the way they are now.

I hear you fishorgulf. The NRA wasn't needed until the antis began to get a stronghold. Once the process got started, the NRA had to go all the way or be defeated.

How many of us would enter into a fight and draw a line on how far we'll go regardless of what our opponent does? Commen sense gets thrown out rather quickly.

It's like entering a war but denying them live rounds....pointless suicide.

This is something I got in an e-mail today. I have no idea if anything it states is actually true. I just thought I would offer it as food for thought.

A Little Gun History Lesson

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about

20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and

exterminated.

------------ --------- ---------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million

Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------ --------- ------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13

million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up

and exterminated

------------ --------- ---------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million

political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and

exterminated.

------------ --------- -------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan

Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------ --------- ---------

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000

Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

------------ --------- ---------

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million

'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and

exterminated.

------------ --------- --------

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because

of gun control: 56 million.

------------ --------- ---------

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new

law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own

government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million

dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300

percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the

criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years s howed a steady decrease in armed

robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12

months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the

ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety

has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in

successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience

and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians

disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,

gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of

this history lesson.

With Guns........ .. ....We Are 'Citizens'.

Without Them........ We Are 'Subjects'.

During W.W.II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew

most Americans were ARMED!

Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended

Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attach to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our

Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding &

was ill prepared to defend the country.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor

attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had

lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.

If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to

all your friends!

AND NEVER, NEVER, NEVER SURRENDER YOUR GUNS!!!

I know you're just offering this up as "food for thought", but this is just the sort of ridiculous nonsense I was referring to.

I didn't see an entry to for Rwanda. Or Bosnia/Yugoslavia.

Wait, that's right, this isn't a causal link. Just a dum chain email.

And by no means travel to Rwanda without your Machete or step between fighting christians and Muslims in Bosnia.

There I added them in there for you max. Perhaps you could see fit to de-classify it as a dum chain email?

I have noticed that those who dislike the NRA state it is made of fanatics but not the gun control groups.

after all, they're reasonable people who just want "reasonable" gun laws

although i am not nor ever been a member, i hate to imagine what would happen if politician X was able to pass whatever gun law he/she wanted without opposition
