How's the ice making progress this year in the Manitou area? Was the lake & stretch froze before the snow? How much snow? Thanks!!

Hey Cedarnarrows,

The strecth was froze as well as esox, I don't know how much snow we really have on the lake. Most of it was blown around. I am guess the bays will have some slush but the main parts will be fine. We have had some unreal temps the past few days and it looks like it's going to stay cold for the next week or so.

I can give you a better idea once we get up and check some snow and ice depths. The first trip in won't be until the 29th, I will post how things went when we get back.

Need to hear something about the Tou!

How will the water level be this Spring? A lot of meltoff?

Hey Cedar, if you're up June 3-10, we ought to get together with Matt for a Blue. I'll be in his outpost cabin up by the big lake.

Similar - hey this is Hoffer.

We had some e-mails last year regarding Manitou. We are actually coming up to the outpost the day you leave! I would love to be able to touch base with you on the way out if possible? Or maybe you guys could write us a quick note and leave it at the cabin with any advice :-)

my e-mail is: mark.hoffmann@comcast.net

Hey outfitter, I might make a quick trip up this weekend. If I do I'll probably stay fishing on the stretch. Any recent reports? ice conditions? If you are around I would stop in to say hi......leaving early friday, hopefully here from ya. Thanks

I was just up a few days ago. The conditions were excellent. There was only 4" of snow on the ice and never found any slush. We have had 4-6" of light fluffy snow since, but it is -20 F and doubt ir will cause any slush. I will be back up on the weekend and will post an update.

    • IDK, I am kinda liking this show more and more. Its much better than the first season. Yeah, Madison has her quirks, but there are some interesting characters and this whole conflict with the indigenous people now is intriguing.
    • DOILIES. Those thing on yer man-cave table tops. So that's a pic of DOLLY, huh? Smurf 's ol' gal friend....or yers?
    • The first piece that Golden State might be losing is Andre Iguadala. Would love to see the wolves grab him.
    •   Sure anytime. But, it kind of sounded above you were over Dollies?  Or was that Dolly's?
    • With all the moist and cool weather, the slugs are having a feast on our garden plants.  My wife asked me to look over some plants that the insects were destroying.  Upon inspection, this is what we found - slugs.  The vegetables treated with slug bait were fine.  It was the flowers, asters, marigolds, pole beans, etc. that were untreated and weakened by some hail were experiencing a slow death.  Check this photo out of the slugs.  These were white like extra large maggots.  They are all treated and coming back strong.
    • WOWZER what a beast!!!!!!!!!!! that DNR  biologist, Mero, i had a talk with him he did the creel survey on our little lake up in itasca county, odd that he would comment about mille lacs since he was out of the grand rapids DNR  office!!!!!! good guy though!!!!!!
    • Crud. I knew that would come back on me. I'll haveta head up to leeches and borrow some of his table doilies.

    • And that's the key...it takes a guy or two to step back from the max deal and take a pay cut to keep this type of talent together. In the NFL, the Patriots are a dynasty because Tom Brady is smart enough to take far less than he'd command on the open mark to stay put with a great coach and build weapons around him...he values rings (aka, his legacy) more than a few more dollars. If GS can do that, they will be relevant for a very long time.
    • nope it didnt!!!!!!!!!
