Battery Problem?

12 posts in this topic

Got a question for everyone. Have never had this happen. Went fishing this weekend. (did well) When I got home I hooked up the Vex to the charger. In the morning the charge light was still at 50-90%. Tried a couple of times and the light doesn't change after charging. When I started the season the light was at 100%. Is it the battery or is it possible the charger is not working? When I used the charger last year it worked fine. Just bought this fl-18 from my Brother in Law. So not sure how old the battery is.

Could be the battery indicator is wrong. My charger has a light that turns green when battery is at full charge. The battery meter isn't always correct. Not sure what type of gage you have mine has 4 lights. 1/4 -1/2 -full -over charged.

Maybe call Vexilar and I'm sure they will hit the nail on the head for you. Their customer service is very good.

My charger and meter started acting goofy two years ago -- not charging/ charging fast, never getting to the full mark -- and then the machine started not acting right, like the gain would go up and down separate from the knob setting.

I picked up a new battery to help diagnose the problems, and the problems all went away.

My money is the battery needs replacing. If it doesn't fix it, it always good to have a spare on hand anyways.

Buy a cheap volt meter from Home Depot. A day after you charge it the battery charge should be around 12.65 volts. If not it is probably shot.

I have a FL-18 and the charge indacator has never went to the 100% even with a new battery. I check it each year with a volt meter to make sure the battery is good and charge it overnight every time I use it.

Combination of battery and charger, just that charger lacks trickle charge and battery is near full charge capacity. You just can't 100% if you're at 98% full charge.

    • Update   I was able to get an extension kit from Tim's Outboard! Couldn't believe it, I checked all over the internet and local shops and NOBODY had the right one for my motor, but Tim's was able to dig one up. It was a great price too, much less than I expected to pay. They shipped it out to me and I'll be installing it on Sunday. Thanks to swamptiger for the suggestion!
    •    Whether, for examples, it's the Trumper's silence, and sometimes support of, his proposed stimulus spending after opposing BHO's, or war protesters largely absent while BHO intervenes in the Middle East after 6 years of massive protest marches when GWB did, or this story, I guess it's up to the observer to decide how much of this so called outrage you've seen in the last several decades has been really based on true principles or just party politics. The press has promised to scrutinize Trump. Great. I expect that. The problem is they've lost their credibility with the rabble so the rabble are left with trying to figure out which institution is telling the truth or pulling our legs   I suppose the one positive to come from the Trump presidency is the left will now become concerned with things like fiscal responsibility, Executive Branch overreach, and interventionism in the Middle East. Not that I wouldn't welcome their  conversions once again to the aforementioned issues after taking a hiatus the last 8 years. But, better late than never, I guess

24 Feb 2017 at 10:44 ET                        CPAC attendees wave Russian flags with the word "TRUMP" written on the front.   Staffers at CPAC quickly scrambled to confiscate Russian flags with the word “TRUMP” on the front that were being waved by attendees during President Donald Trump’s speech on Friday. The trouble began when some attendees took out pro-Trump flags to wave during the president’s speech that also happened to have the same white-blue-and-red striped pattern as Russian’s official flag.

    • The more the merrier. Funny how I always make picks, second guess and change and should've stayed with original picks. Still fun to do though. Should be interesting year with some of the big changes.
