Used trailer purchase ??

fishwater

Question

I'm buying a used trailer. It is a single axle, 3000 GVW. What do I need to get from the seller?? I have a bill of sale written up with some legal mumbo jumbo that I will have him sign - is there anything else?

Is there a title or title transfer form with smaller trailers?

thanks!!

I was told they quit giving titles for trailors after the lifetime lisence was started. I registered a trailor last spring it had the lifetime lisence,a couple months later I got a white card with make, model, year & ser.# on it.Confused me after I was told I would not get one! But I registered it with a bill of sale, they looked it up in their data base and its now in my name.

You may ask if he or she has that white card,in my case the seller didn't. But all worked out OK

Yes, it still has a title. When I sold my race car trailer last year, I gave them the title, and just wrote I sold the trailer for $XXX. They paid a little tax on it, then had to transfer the title. Same thing when I bought my boat this fall, got a title in the mail for the trailer, but not the boat. I was a bit confused on that one!

I believe if it is licensed for over 3,000# and has a license plate and not just a permanent sticker it will also have a title. If it has the permanent sticker only then it have just a small card that looks like a cab card. On the back of that card is a place to write in your transfer information.

A couple small trailers ago, I had less than the above and they transfer it over.

I just gave them the plate number and said I bought it for this much, payed and they gave me the life time lic.

I did this with a jet-ski also. No card, just gave them the hull numbers and was good to go.

If it is not ligit, I think for these purchases they have your info to come get ya wink

Also a call to the lic. office will get you the info for now-a-days.

Good luck
