jakemcarroll
I'm looking into building my first rods. They will be UL panfish rods for ice fishing. I found some blanks online that I like and they come in two styles, one is prepainted black with an orange tip and the others come unpainted. Just wondering what kind of paint one would use to paint the rod and then how does the whole rod get sealed? Thanks!
Deitz Dittrich
Not sure the rod needs to be sealed.. I have made a few ice rods before, and never sealed them.. Just sealed the threads when tieing on the guides.
upnorth
You really don't need to paint or seal them. If the color is OK and you want an actual finish the easiest thing to do is use a spray on varnish. If you do make sure you use a quality varnish and let it cure for a couple days before you try to wrap the guides or it will be kind of softe.
