Buckshot Rattle Spoon

Why would you chose one of these over the other? Will certain situations dictate which type you choose? Any info you can provide would be helpful..

The dropper rig is more of a finesse approach. I use it for finicky fish. The spoon with the treble I use for the more aggressive fish. I will however use the one with a treble on my deadstick with a whole minnow for a better hook up.

don't forget the dropper works better sometimes on preassured fish!! think out side of the box when there is alot of people out by you and the fish are not cooperating like you would like!

The single hook-style is to be fished with a whole minnow and slower and the treble-style is for a minnow head and more aggressive technique.

Shouldn't we stay away from talking about finicky and pressured fish? It's only November. Ha!

Excellent point!

I agree on the dropper rig being for finnicky fish. I always start with the standard treble and go looking for fish that will take a more aggressive approach, I only go to dropper style rigs when nothing else is working.

I have a few of those spoons, but I've never really used just the minnow head.

Are we talking crappie minnow head, or medium sucker head? How would you hook it on there... facing which direction? Will the fish get confused if it looks like it has two heads? lol

Thanks!

Most times it would be a Fathead or Rainbow chub or a small shiner. I just pinch the head off and hook thru the front part of the head. Works great for Walleyes or Perch.

The early ice will give up some aggressive fish but the longer the ice is over there heads you will start seeing fish that will not come up and chomp your spoon and this is when your electronics will help you catch a few more. When the walleyes stop pounding the spoon they will come up and just suck on that minnow head and that is when you need to watch your flasher and pay attention to the weight of your lure. They will suck in the head and you will feel no wobble or it will get a little lighter and that is when you have to set the hook or it will spit it out and swim off.

Jim gives some great advice, so I will just add to what he has already said.

If the fish don't seem to be responding to a Buckshot Rattle Spoon tipped with a minnow head, don't be afraid to try tipping the same presentation with your favorite plastic tail(s) and/or multiple wax worms before slowing down your presentation.

Also making a switch to a standard Forage Minnow spoon has been the ticket for me at times (even in the same color just no rattles)

    • The US gets Assange this way. Not difficult to understand.
    • It has a slight liberal bias: all major news media lies between the political ideology of a typical Democrat and a typical Republican. No outlet is going to intentionally dissuade 30% of the market, it's just bad business. With regards to Trump though, he has made an enemy of the press. It has little to do with his political affiliation and everything to do with his confrontational attitude. See this "come at me bro" of a statement from the Press Corps. Note they welcome Trump to sue them for the so called "fake news", probably because they are confident in the accuracy of their articles. Also realize that it is entirely possible for something to be accurate and biased: which is probably all you will see in Trump coverage from here until the end of his Presidency
    • So we support intelligence depts now?
    • You mean fake Bruce Springsteen.  The real one is a librul and the fake one didn't want to urinate on the bed of the real one.   I'm sure Trump wanted them to play "Born in the USA" like all the other politicians that have no clue what that song is about but like the chorus.
    • I'm trying to wrap my head around this one. Obama truly is a bigger POS than I thought. Good, God this is bizarro world. By commuting the sentence of this freak show, it's like burning down all the intelligence depts. Why do we have laws?
    • So Obama is mad at the Russians for hacking and Wikileaks for publishing the hacks yet he just Pardoned Chelsea Bradley Manning who stole secrets and gave them to Wikileaks   This is a real WTF moment.
    • You failed to post the very next part of that very article:     You never patted Obama on the back for any of that oddly enough.    http://www.reuters.com/article/cbusiness-us-gm-tech-center-renovation-idCAKBN0NZ19920150514   So either congratulate both or congratulate neither.
    • Because you are banking on not having to pay it back in your lifetime and are perfectly fine with passing that debt down to future generations which allows you to live a better lifestyle at their expense.  Some of us don't think it'e ethical to pass debt onto generations who will have no say in the process.
