Red LED lights

So I was just sitting down to look at getting the LED lights and got to wondering, what about one or two strips of red? One of the guys in my sons cub pack says that some national forests require you only use red lights at night to not harm anyone's night vision. I know it helps but I have never been real keen on it. Has anyone tried this so I don't have too.

For some reason the thought of red lights makes me think of the Seinfeld episode with Kenny Rogers Chicken

If you sit in a red lit shack all night, I would bet it would really tough on your eyes. My guess is red only in some national parks and forests is for campers to avoid annoying other campers
