IFallsRon
Just noticed on the Rainy Lake cam that there's enough ice on the Black Bay view to hold up snow.
toughguy
There is ice on some of the lakes on the BWCA webcam too. HERE WE GO!!!!!!
tip_upclyma
Oh boy!!!!! I cannot wait to hear that early ice is fishable! I don't care if I have to drive 6 hours north. What do you think...weekend after Thanksgiving????
toughguy
I've been on the ice south of the metro the first weekend in Dec. for the past 3 years. 6 hrs. north of the metro may be Thanksgiving weekend this year. Temps are staying down so it's lookin good. All we need is one of those good sub zero or single digit low cold snaps now.
tip_upclyma
Yeah, I was on Lake Osekis in Alexandria area last year on November 30th.....What would excite me the most is to get some good early ice without the snow! I love standing on top of a window!
slabchaser
i would love to start ice fishing that early but i have bad luck and you would end up reading about me on the news.

toughguy
I agree with ya there. I'm never the first one out anymore. I'll wait until there's a good group out there and I never go alone on early ice anymore.
ib_jigged
The river here is starting to ice over! Won't be long!
Quetico
My thing with early ice is if theres not a group out there, take the ice picks. I will drill every 10 or 15 feet as I walk out to make sure the ice is thick enough. I will stop when the ice is less than 4".
cRaPpiEMaN8265
I will just strap on a life jacket run the picks through my sleeves so they are easy to grab and walk out stabbing in front of me with a chisel. If nobody else is out there I will bring the chisel and stab the ice twice if it goes thru i turn around otherwise carry on! Or of course you could just have someone bigger than you lead the way Ryan
gritsnham
That first ice can be tricky but its just so hard to resist! Just make sure you got the safety gear which crappieman summed up pretty good id say. Cant Wait!
