Tandem Axle Trailer Tires

1900_LE

Question

What kind of tires are you using on your tandem axle boat trailer?

I just looked for a set and at a $100 a piece that gets pretty spendy for four tires. Is it safe to run passenger car tires? Or do I need to suck it up and get the the special trailer tires?

Thanks

Don't get car tires, Get trailer tires that will stand the max capacity of your trailer. Shop around a little you might be able to find a better deal, or some discount since you're buying 4 of them. $ 100 each is high. I just replaced a blowout on my camper, a 215/75/15 trailer tire was $ 85.00 installed with new stem. Also if you can and want to spend just a tad more, get the metal stems. I had a rubber one blow out completely while standing still, they get fried with time and weather, when wheel gets hot from usage, they might crack and blow, since tire pressure gets higher due to expansion. metal stems might pcst as much as $ 5 each.
