Dog in Heat - should I hunt

3 posts in this topic

My dog went into heat - should I hunt with her for the next week or two? She seems to not be interested in fetching yesterday and kinda tired.

i wouldn't see a problem. i have hunted my dog when she was in heat. just keep a eye on her so no males sneak up on her.

Famous last words - keep an eye on her. A number of years ago there were about 15 guys and at least a half dozen dogs, one of which was in heat. We were standing around at the end of a drive and all of a sudden there was Alex having at it with her. The owner went bonkers - tried to pull them apart (doesn't work) tried to cool things down with water (didn't work) and then sort of came after me as if it was my fault. Asked me to pay 1/2 the cost of the shot that terminated any pups. I declined.

Go ahead and hunt with her. Just be preapred to pay for the shot yourself. You'll never be able to eliminate the 'chance encounter'.
