4" on late ice. Every step you took, water would come up through other people's holes. The ice wasn't honeycombed yet, but it was the last day of the ice season for sure. Open water two days later.

I have been on less than 2. Now it is 4 or better.

I dont care how good the fishing is, it is not worth the risk anymore. To many responsibilities.

No kidding. Seeing fish, weeds and anything else down there everywhere you walk is a trip for sure. The pic in my avatar was about 4" of clear ice a few years ago. I was so cool to see the fish come up and ride along the top of the ice before they got to the hole. It's wierd how a dusting of snow can make you feel at ease. When there are parts of clear ice covered with a dusting of snow I find myself walking on the snow as if it's somehow safer than clear ice. In fact the clear stuff is stringer.

I really don't like to be on ice unless it is at least 3 inches thick.

I'll walk on 3 inches of good, new, clear ice. I'll start pulling a portable on four.

Any snow inclusions or milky ice, I steer clear until it is 5-6 inches.

I fear late season ice much more than new, clear ice.

River fishing is a blast just started that last year and can't wait to do it more this year

Im a wuss and that popping noise the ice makes freaks me out still. I can watch a guy drive by in an F350, but it still gives me the shivers. 12" or more is my rule.

I will walk on 3-4in and feel pretty safe, but I got a new 24ft Ice Castle and drive a 4-door 3/4T Diesel how much ice do you think I will need to drive out this year?

1 1/2. usually one of the first ones if not the first out. sure is fun catchin those hogs, but have to be prepared to get wet and make sure to have the ice pics with. usually bring boards with 2 place one in front of the other to walk on
