Wyoming help?!?!?

2 posts in this topic

Since there isn't a state page for Wyoming, I thought this might be my best bet to get some advice on fishing there.

I am heading to the Saratoga/Encampment area to fish the roadless section of the Encampment river in about a week. I have never been there before, I just know it holds some nice fish, is relatively uncrowded, and that is enough for me.

I am having trouble finding information about hatches this time of year. Are they simiar to the hatches on the upper North Fork Platte? I would assume some tricos, caddis, and possibly hoppers in the lower sections, and bwo's if it gets cloudy, but am not sure. Are there October caddis in the system?

Any help, tips, or info would be appreciated. Is it better to head in from the lower(riverside) or upper(hogback) access points? Flows are down to about 100cfs so it will be smaller water which could be good or bad. Thanks for the help if you have any, wish me luck!

I don't have any info on that area but you might try going to [YouNeedAuthorization] and asking the same question.

    •   I'll take them over walleye any day!!!
    • Ya know, it had been a while since I checked in here.  Seems the climate certainly has changed from the days when guys like Dietz Dittrich & Rob Kimm would foster some awesome discussion topics about fishing & the outdoors.  I'm sorry to see what this place has become.     To the guys who offered up honest answers to my inquiry, I thank you.  As for the rest of you, no wonder this once-great forum no longer is.  About the only reply missing to my initial question was, "Hey, you shoulda been here yesterday!"  Have fun liking each other's witty, zany posts, and enjoy the circle-jerk this forum has become.  From the sounds of things, you puds deserve each other.  Enjoy!
    • we have three other ones already.... but of a hoarder I guess lol
    • You guys wanna hear something funny?,  after all this jabber about the Bushmaster I dropped by the gun counter to see what the hell they were. You are right and so was I.....a very inexpensive plastic appliance sorta firearm.  I believe you are all correct it is an adequate weapon and from what I gather very dependable. If I want a simple, inexpensive weapon to repel boarders  I guess it would do so it may well be what the kid is looking for. Funny part is, a new Beretta 92FS left the store with me!  As you already know THAT is a serious and well crafted piece of machinery!! Ha Ha! And no,   I didn't need it. But it is big enough and heavy enough you could beat to death a charging buffalo!
    •   +1.  Any caliber outside of a BB gun will penetrate drywall.
    • Do a google search of walnut hollow country turkey mount They make nice real wood ones   I ordered mine from them on amazon as it was cheaper on there for some reason They make ones without the picture on it if that's your style
    • Bushmasters are not bad I have shot a couple and they work just fine. Just think of it as a chevy Malibu. Yes there are Camaros and Corvettes out there but they come with a price. If you are just needing to get to work and back the Malibu is just fine if you want to go to the track the corvette is better. I am getting the drift he wants the gun in case you know what hits the fan well in that case the bush master will do. If he wants to do some serious shooting or competition 3 gun or whatever I would suggest otherwise.         As far as the wall penetrating debate Its all hog wash unless you are hitting studs the bullet is going through drywall with the exception of birdshot will stop after a wall or two
    •   The importation of AKs was banned during the Obama administration, but there were a lot of them imported prior to the ban, so they are still available.  Probably not at big box stores, though.  You would have to shop around, and some of them bring high prices due to the mods made to them.   https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/banning-russian-made-ak-47s-sets-off-a-us-buying-frenzy/2014/08/31/ad6cbbde-2e0a-11e4-994d-202962a9150c_story.html
