Another thread sparked my memory of a car I owned when I was younger.

It was a '90 Beretta GTZ with a quad 4 2.3L

90gtz.jpg

I used to tell people how fast it was and that I could pull over 100mph in 3rd gear. Of course back then nobody would every believe me I could do that with a 4 cylinder. So being young and stupid I would have to show them.

Now all I have to do is go on You Tube grin

So did you have a vehicle that you wish you could've kept forever? I still wish I had that Beretta, but obviously driving it like that on a regular basis, it met an early demise. smirk

94 Licoln Continental, bought in 2001. Body was immaculate, Dark Green, tan leather interior, sunroof, air ride suspension, I installed a CD Deck and speaker system. I had that when I lived with a couple buddies on Green Lake in Spicer when I was 21. We'd have 8 people in there and when we got out the air ride would be so jacked up it looked like I had a 6" lift on it, then the air ride would drain and it would set down and level off. It was sweet, untill the air ride started deciding when and where it would work. I (and not to mention my mechanic) got pretty sick of fixing it all the time, and that air ride is not cheap to fix. It sat for a few years and I sold it for $300. I miss that car. The girls loved it.

1996 300ZX Twin Turbo I bought it Brand New in 95 "DOH" I drove it to Florida that winter in Record time with amazingly NO speeding tickets..... No exaggeration we were in many convoys traveling at speeds in excess of 125mph for hours on end!

The following spring I was driving it on Washington Ave in light rain near Downtown MPLS going no faster then 30 MPH and somehow lost control and smashed into the guard rail totaling it.

Drove it for 6 months and lost about 12 g's on the deal.

Talk about a fast car!

My first car in 1991 when I was 16 was a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 tudoor post. It had been put in a barn in 1980, and the man I bought it from had a guardian and told us he didn't think it would run. He told me to give him $50 for it. After towing it home, replacing the plugs and getting the old gas out of the line, it started right up. This isn't mine, but same color:

used to have a 1908 black el camino. Sweet ride, but did not take care of it, and used it hunting and fishing all of the time in college. Beat it up pretty good.

Check this out... A new EL Camino?

Its a bad picture but its the only one on this computer right now. Its my 2003 Ram. Its was the truck of my dreams, and im lucky enough to still have her. Even though it doesnt leave the driveway all that often right now. 3" body lift w/35" BFG's and exhaust that will rattle your bones!

grin The Beretta never shut off wink

I had to recruit a sport bike to find out what the top speed was. It was pretty impressive. Stupid but impressive.

Nothing fancy or fast here, but my favorite was a 1982 (I think) Cutlass Supreme. I loved the look and drive of that one.....then it decided it would only live for me for 42k miles -- gosh darn O2 sensor!

Never could get that fixed so I traded it. Stayed with another Olds, Cierra, and that one only made 42k miles -- electrical problems are tough to figure out. Never bought another Olds since. Became a Ford guy ever since with 2 Escorts, an Aerostar, a Taurus, and an Escape. Escorts made 83k, the Aerostar made 95k, the Taurus is still running at 120k and the Escape is only a few yrs old.

I have had some fun vehicles, but to be honest I would have to say that my taurus that I paid a couple hundred dollars for and put over 100k on it would be tops, or tied with my f150 truck. Although I bought the truck new, it has been a working truck, pulling stuff way to big for it, and carrying loads way to heavy for it its whole live and hasnt once let me down. With no major work to it, just maint!

My first car was a 1973 Subaru GL Coupe. It was blaze orange...perfect for a young hunter. grin By the time I got it, the strut towers had completely rusted out and were leaning inward and up against the spare tire, which was above the engine. The bottom of the trunk, passenger side floorboard and exhaust system were also completely rusted out. Oh, and it back fired almost as loud as a shotgun. The car was a total beater, but it started and ran like a champ, and was just big enough to fit me, the black lab and a shot gun.

Here's an ad from 1973...I love it!

My first car was a Chevy Impala (1970). That car had over 300,000 miles on it.

Second car was a Chevelle (1972). Loved that car. Wish I still had it. Survived through three boys in their late teens.

My wife bought a brand new Honda Odessy and I bought a brand new Nissan Altima. Bought for the cars had high ratings. The Nissan's engine went out at 80,000 miles. The Honda at 68,000 miles. TERRIBLE customer service. The Honda was a manufactures defect...and the dealer said so...but 3,000 miles out of warranty.

Mine was a 1988 Honda Prelude SI AWS (all wheel steer). I had 15" acura aluminum wheels with Goodyear GT+4's and tinted windows. Other than that it looked just like this one.

Like Darren I had a hold my beer and watch this moment. The speedo would peg at 140! blush That only happened one time. This car was a true pleasure to drive. Handled like it was on rails!! Clover leafs didn't phase it at all. There are very few cars that I have driven since that would even compare!!

mine, like zamboni's was in 91. i was 16 and my neighbor had an odd looking car in his barn. it has been there since 80 and i gave him $150 for it. new battery, plugs, oil, and gas was all it took to get my yellow 1972 karmann ghia on the road.

my 'new' car is an 82 subaru brat. still got some work to do till its on the road.
