Biggest Flat landed ALONE?

22 posts in this topic

One of my Flathead fishing buddies landed a good fish this weekend on P3 while fishing by himself (The one night I cant go frown ) After him telling me how "fun" it was landing it himself. I was wondering what the biggest fish you've landed by yourself?

approx 45lbs from a muddy soupy shore, on a Bass pole with 12lb mono.

Both the fish and I lived to tell about it....the rod didn't

I typically don't go fishing at night if I will be by myself...

I need someone there to talk to, since that is half the fun just kickin' back and hanging out.

My #3 son landed a a 39 pound Flat last year on the Croix. And the year before he landed an 80 pound Sturgeon by himself while river fishing in a 12 foot boat. He couldn't get it into the boat without swamping, so he tied it up by the tail and rowed to shore. But its unfair to compare him to the rest of you, since he's my son, which makes him more skilled and powerful than the rest of you. (giggle, wink)

55 lbs on the St Croix on 14 August 2005. When he was in the water next to the boat I thought it was a monster fish. I grabbed him by the lower jaw and wrestled him into the boat - what a fish. I want another one!!!

Never really went fishing on the river alone at night, but after picking up the 125 Lbs Lip Grip Rapala Scale I think I could fight off about any bum that messed with me. smile

36 lb Flat from about 15 or so feet above the fish with the rod in one hand and the 20 foot net in the other. I did have a little help though I was wearing my Chuck Norris extreme hunting shirt! He roundhoused the cat into the net!

Crazyice, the 80lb. Sturgeon that my son caught was below a dam on a river in Wisconsin. Catching them in fast water gets interesting. I had my butt handed to me a couple of times trying to catch them. Very humbling.

A 36 lb flat up a muddy bank. The fish seem bigger when you have to haul them up a muddy incline without falling or dropping the fish.

^ I will fish with you sometime if you need someone to go with. I will go during the day by myself, but at night I need someone else there. It's getting a little too cold now, but on a warmer night I'll go.
