01 Durango Lift Gate

6 posts in this topic

any advice apprectiated here, was in accident 4 weeks ago, major damage done to liftgate and it will not open. Not getting the truck repaired, but interested in taking the insurance $ and finding a junkyard replacement. Any idea how hard it would be to remove lift gate? The damage to the lift gate was dead center below the window right and where the handle to open it was. I haven't even looked from the inside to see if there is a way to pop it free, all I have tried is to stand on the bumper and pull up on the SOB.

Since your planning on going the used route start tearing the interior panel for the lift gate off. You will likely be able to find the lift gate not only in the same color but the same interior as well so if you trash the old one (if its not already) its no big deal.

Once the panel is off you'll see the latch and linkages and will likely be able to figure out what you need to pull/pry to get it open.

Yep, the way Airjer said sounds like your only option.

After the new/used one is hung, some alignment might have to be done for proper sealing and gap distance.

Good luck!

2 words... Air Chisel. Cut a large area open and take a look. Once it's open you can access the rods and get the gate to open. Trying to take off the interior trim panel can be difficult from the inside.

Good luck,

haven't even tried to access it yet, probably a this weekend project. Going to have to try from the inside as no access to an air chisel.

    • Hey everybody. An FYI. There is something new coming. Should be out around October, 2017 and available for on-line purchase.   If you google : ICE WELL Live Well ICAST 2017 The video of the product roll-out at ICAST 2017 in July, 2017 will pop up.   Also you can go to the product page. See : ICEWELLLiveWell.com. The page has a separate video to view also.                        The product is being manufactured from a custom blend non-buoyant polypropylene with impact modifiers to withstand extreme cold without cracking. The product will sit within 99% of all manufactured 5-gallon buckets for transport to and from the fishing spot. It is designed to fit within a drilled 8 or 10 inch ice hole. When in the drilled hole it will fill allowing you to throw your catch in the ICE WELL Live Well. No more throwing them on the ice or in the bucket to die, freeze or turn to slime. At the end of the day, pull it, place back in the bucket for transport home. No more frozen fish and easy handling. It's going to sell for around $19.99 plus shipping. The listed page will undergo changes before roll out that will allow purchase direct on-line. This is a creation by a Nebraska ice fisherman for ice fishermen. Made in the USA. Made with recycled materials. "Respect the Resource".
    • Can't build a taller garage when it's a tuck-under with sheet-rocked 7' ceilings!!! The truck sits up high....
    • bigger garage!!
    • Same thing here...*TWANG*  I took my big snippers to mine and screwed a black wire nut cap on the cut end. Or unscrew one from a junkyard F-150 and saw it off. Looks fine.
    • I've fished it once about 10yrs ago Ice fishing from fishermans wharf....caught one perch in 3 days.   I was thinking about trying the lake once again with my wheel house..but it looks to be shut down. I talked to a guy from the Mille lacs area last winter at upper red, and he said the lake was great and it was the best he'd had for large fish ever on the lake.   I did did some reading and seen quite a few different views. The one I found most compelling and seemed to make the most sense after reading and looking at data was the view of a walleye population being mismanaged with slots, allowing for way to many large fish that have basicly eaten themselves out of food with the baitfish they prey on. Which in turn turned them into predators of their own young walleye. Hence the collapse of the walleye.
