A gas saving idea

3 posts in this topic

This may have been voiced in an earlier thread, but if so, I must have missed it?

I've got a good suggestion for saving alot of gas for alot of people.....and overall, alot of gas in general. Have you ever missed a turn on the freeway and had to drive like 10 miles down the road to find a place to turn around? I have on a few occassions.

There are plenty of turn arounds across the median, turn arounds that are used by the state patrol to whip around and get you, cause they seen that you have a deodorizer hanging from your rear view mirror.

Each has a sign with a big red "No u-Turns" and the same patrol car that was instrumental in the last paragraph, is hiding behind a clump of bushes just waiting for you to say, "To hey with it" and make that u-turn.

It doesn't matter which one you use, or when, or where you use it, he will be there...there is no getting around it. "Whats a matter son, can't ya read the big red sign that says, 'No U-Turns'? Let's see your license and registration boy...the fine on that is $3000.00 just in case you weren't aware of it!"

If they opened one up about half way down, for us without Tom Toms, for us that don't always know exactly to the inch where we are going, I think that would save alot of gas?

I believe the reason for not allowing the general public to use those U-Turns is safety. There are no approach lanes designed into the highway for them and this adds a potential for accidents. Also, on the Interstate system, I believe it is a design spec that no traffic will enter the highway onto the inside lane and this would violate that specification as well.

Bob, I figured there was something of that nature involved....but a designated half way turn around would still save gas? Maybe not, with the am-bell-ance comming out to pick up the accident victims, that would negate the savings. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

    • It the particular case of the poor integration of immigrants in Sweden and the EU in general, that information is publicly available and has been for some time, so probably isn't something the Intelligence folks are making a point of.   Likewise, the mainstream media doesn't seem to be making much of it.      On the other hand, we have the reports in the media that the Intelligence folks have allegedly stopped telling Trump stuff.   What are they allegedly not telling him?   Are they deliberately trying to make him fail?
    • This has probably been beaten to death on here but....after the recent trip to Winnipeg and driving on rough ice all weekend, I'm reconsidering the auger mount on my ATV.  I have one of the Kolpin ones right now that is 2 thinner pieces of metal that stand up off the front rack.  The only way to hold the auger in is with bungees and the metal is thin and wears on the auger at the contact points.   I'm thinking I could work some 2x6's or something into a decent mount for fairly cheap.     Anybody have pics of a homemade one?   Or anybody recommend the Digger mount?
    • So how did you get the livewell overflow out? We've had some problems with ours & have toyed with the idea of replacing it. We don't really want to tear all the floor up though.
    •   Yeah., just not the same as Frankie. Try typing in all CAP'S!
    • Not last year but the year before that we had one that followed us all through deer season.  He would hop up on our knee while we were sitting there, and the little bastard would grab my glove and try to run off with it.  He was almost dinner many nights.
    • Saw this topic and the link to Rock Auto. I ordered up left and right headlight assembly's for my 04 Suburban. They fit right in and even included bulbs. $58.00 to the door delivered for the pair. Cannot beat the price and quality looks fine- better than the old dump I replaced.  Now do I replace the daytime running lens assembly's and fog lamps? Ordered on Thursday and delivered on Saturday 2 days early.
    • They have the 20% off sale(some exclusions) going on this week at Gander. Just need the code from the page, though Rogers just uses one at the counter, so I didn't need it. They got more fishing stuff out now, so I loaded up on some Missle Destroyers!
    • I got the TYC Fog light installed last week. Worked good and looks better than the busted out one! I would of done it months ago if I knew it was that cheap and easy to do.
    •     Oh stop it. How was I to know? You'll just get Dell all fluffed up again and we'll turn THIS into another sillytown.
    • There are a few places to stay that are not too far from the lake.  Hamilton House in Winnipeg Beach is good, a lot of guys stay at the Casino on the East side,  there is a new hotel in Selkirk that is pretty nice and has lots of rooms and breakfast.     Nobody plows roads.  We always watch the weather and snow depth before we go.  We have been lucky to only have to bring ATVs with wheels up there.  Eventually we will have to deal with some deep snow though and bring sleds or tracks up.     There are a few guides that run around on the lake.  Lee Nolden and Blackwater Cats are the 2 I know of.  From what I hear they are pretty accomadating and have all the necessary gear.
